We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Martin Raul Gutierrez Chang a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Martin Raul, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
The help and support from both my parents. Nothing was ever handed to me as a kid. If I ever wanted anything, I had to learn to help myself become better and figure out how to get what I was seeking. The way I seen them help themselves and help one another as they grew was everything.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am currently developing a brand in which you can follow @theprojecthelp on instagram. The brand is all about spreading the message and the word of HELP. Through my art practices and my experiences in life, God gave me an opportunity to seek that the purpose in which I discovered, is to share with others the important concept of HELP.
My personal brand is @mrfavorito on instagram. The M and R stand for my first name which is Martin Raul, and the favorito is a friendly reminder to myself to be my own favorite person that way I am able to inspire others to love themselves and be their own favorite person. That’s where you’ll see me make my art ranging from films, music, writings and anything I am able to build with my hands or mind.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Being myself is definitely at number 1. I purposely train myself to not be like anyone else and be the best possible version of myself. What has helped me with that and I believe would help anyone is searching for mentors, and understanding that you are capable of doing anything you want with the proper surroundings and desire to succeed, Ultimately only you can really tell or teach yourself how to be yourself. Find your own personal ways to get motivated and don’t idolize anything or anyone. You have to be bold by being in love and in tune with yourself and enjoying your journey.
Being helpful is at number 2. Every person who is wealthy or successful in some form or fashion at some point in their journey they received help. Without help, humans wouldn’t have progressed or continue to evolve. Sometimes all the help you need is in helping someone else, not just asking for help.
Finding solutions and not having any mental limits at number 3. I learned this through filming and creating music. You will only go as far as your mind’s limits. There are also no problems, only solutions. When you’re writing a song for example, it is some of the freest forms of language and pronunciation there can be. You can create new words, new sounds, new melodies, all by just experimenting. Experimenting is critical in anything you do. You must not be afraid to fail and be happy to fail as many times as possible. Failing does not make you a failure. Giving up does.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I honestly can’t pin point it down to just one person. I am truly blessed to be surrounded by a lot of amazing humans. I don’t have a biological brother but I do have many brothers out there that have helped me progress and become a better individual. There is also the power of reading that has helped me progress. A book a day keeps the doctor away.
