We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lauren Summers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my father. He has built his business through word of mouth because his reputation speaks for its self. He is the definition of putting in work and goes above and beyond for his clients.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I get to serve other by teaching and coaching them through the process of buying and selling real estate. I am at a point in my career where I can choose who I work with and get to work with people who I like and like & trust me in return. They follow my instructions and the process goes as smoothly for something that can be extremely stressful.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Professionalism: I committed to spending five years in the corporate world after college to learn from others’ mistakes. Surprisingly, this experience taught me valuable lessons in working and communicating effectively. It instilled punctuality and precision in my communication skills.
Accountability: I’ve always disliked the idea of others questioning my job performance. To prevent this, I proactively manage tasks and communicate excessively to ensure clients never need to request updates. I readily admit my mistakes or missteps and avoid making excuses.
High Standard of Service: During my corporate tenure, I oversaw our company’s offshore contact centers. This role allowed me to stay informed about customer issues and reasons for contacting customer service. Our company’s mission was to create a seamless customer experience. To achieve this, I invested time in attending conferences and reading books like “The Effortless Experience” by Matthew Dixon. This education emphasized emotional intelligence, effective collaboration with diverse individuals, and issue resolution techniques. I’ve since integrated these skills into my real estate business, recognizing the inherent stress in the process and striving to minimize it for my clients.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am currently seeking to assist Realtors who are facing challenges and require guidance and coaching to kickstart their real estate careers. When it comes to forming a team, my selection process is meticulous. I aim to bring on board individuals who share our mission of delivering top-tier service and genuinely helping others, as opposed to those solely motivated by financial gain or treating it as a mere job.
