We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dee Bartee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dee, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my parents, My mom thought me a lot growing up about the importance of working hard in life! She started from a very young age! She still is a shining example for me today!!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a mom of 5!! I started photography as a way to watch my children grow! I learned that I had a true passion for it along the way! Watching my children frow up through my pictures made me realize how important the photos really are and how that’s all that’s left after they grow up. I learned that I love capturing all those special moments, and I absolutely LOVE being invited to all those special moments with families, from maternity sessions birth of a baby, senior pictures to graduation! There’s nothing like weddings for example!
Telling the story about your Wedding Day is the method in which I take photos!
Taking the shots that show the Romance, the creativeness & the details in your planning, the special moments between family and friends, the spontaneous notions of children and adults, the entertainment provided by your vendors and your guests, the emotional responses of close family and friends and the love reflected by the bride and groom is the story I strive to tell with each and every wedding I shoot.
After the party is over, the photos are the memories captured! You want to be able to relive moments of your wedding and discover moments you didn’t even know happened!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Technical Skills Every successful photographer has mastered their own craft. There is no amount of passion can replace the mastery of technical skills; you need to know what you are doing if you want to be good.
Artistic Skill
Photography business is all about art. That’s why you need to sharpen your artistic skill. How to do it? It’s easy, yet need a good eye to find a great composition and capture the moment at the right timing. Practice hard and someday, you can get the feeling to capture a lot of upstanding pictures.
Ability To Work Under Pressure
Becoming a photographer is quite challenging. When you become a real photographer, you will find yourself working from dark to dark again. That’s not including the client’s request. Sometimes, we might find client’s requests are fascinating.
Good Communication Skill
Last but not least, you need good communication skills. Communication is needed when you have to make negotiate or need to deliver a message to your client
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking to partner and learn new skills from new people! I never want to stop learning!
