Meet Sheyna Gee

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sheyna Gee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Sheyna , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from not having any other choice. Being an independent musician has taught me that no one cares more about your career than you do so I’ve spent the last 5 years putting in the work to book shows, record music, being my own publicist and manager, running social media and everything in between.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a country artist from California living in Nashville now. This year I focused heavily on touring after my song Ghost went viral on TikTok. It’s been so exciting to meet people all around the world who share a common love for country music. I’m releasing new music September 29th, a Christmas song this November and a single every month next year. I cant wait to connect with more people on the road and share new songs.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most helpful tools I’ve found recently are editing tools for managing my career. I edit my website on squarespace, make single covers and content on Canva and am able to write press releases and booking emails through AI. It’s all a lot of work to get the hang of the tools and I still struggle but its made it so that I can run my entire career in house and keep putting one foot in front of the other. I don’t think this takes any special skill except the want to keep going and not need to rely on anyone.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would love to build a team to move my career forward faster. If I had 3 of me that would be ideal. Booking, management, PR and maybe even someone running my social media. It takes so much time in the day to do all of them and sometimes it makes sense to pay someone for that load instead of using every last bit of energy.
