Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mary Kathleen Mittelstadt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mary Kathleen, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I don’t believe that we as human beings only have one purpose within our lives. I believe that we have multiple purposes that intertwine, overlap, meld, and change. This can be from year to year, decade to decade, or even day to day.
That said, one of my current purposes is to help awaken the physical realm to that of the spiritual realm. I do that through offering psychic mediumship, intuitive, and animal communication readings, as well as through writing, teaching, and mentoring. Through this purpose, I want to educate as many people as possible about the fact that not only are they souls in human bodies, but that their minds and emotions are fleeting. I want to educate as many people as possible about the potentialities of their own souls, and how they can lean into their own souls while they are here, in a human body with a human mind, to make their time here on earth better, more fruitful, more fulfilling, and to help them heal from a myriad of individualistic life events and to grow and spiritually develop.
I found this purpose of spreading spiritual / soul awareness and awakening by being thrust into it myself. I found this purpose by experiencing how life-changing, perspective-shifting the awareness can be. I found this purpose by shifting from a very angry, very one-dimensional person, who was essentially hardened and living life by going through the motions of career-eat-sleep-repeat, to cracking open spiritually without anyone to help me while in a very lonely, dark place to boot. Sometimes, it feels like the purpose found me.
I want others to be able to experience what I’ve been so grateful to experience. Not only can it be helpful with the journey of grief, but it can be helpful with shifting outlooks on how we see life itself as a whole. It can be helpful with how we see humanity and our own purposes.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an evidential psychic medium, intuitive, animal communicator, and spiritual mentor. I provide clients throughout the world with readings via video and phone in these three areas.
Mediumship readings involve connecting clients to loved ones who have physically died and are now in the spiritual realm. These connections can be with human or animal loved ones. The word “evidential” means that each reading should bring through pieces of information that I could not have known without being connected to the spiritual realm, and to prove with whom I’m connected. The pieces of evidence can be in a wide variety of areas: cause of death, personality, details of your relationship dynamics, family structures, favorite pastimes, special objects, dates/months, memories, and so on. The evidence then validates the messages that are given from the spirit loved one to the client.
Intuitive readings involve connecting with the soul of the client for guidance, healing, and growth for the client. I am not the type of psychic who ‘predicts the future’, nor do I believe in doing so. I believe that much of the future can be manipulated by each of us as individuals: that it is fluid. Thus, intuitive readings are more about seeing and connecting to the inner nature of the client, their life, and their relationships, as well as anything else that their higher self (soul) would like to bring up. For example, a client may come into an intuitive reading really wanting advice about their love life, but their soul may find that they have issues from their childhood with their parental relationships that need to be addressed first. Or a grandparent in spirit may come forward and parallel innate issues with self-esteem and confidence that they themselves had, which the client is also struggling with, that are now blocking the client from finding dating success. This would highlight a deeper generational cycle and something to be worked through in order to seek out the right partner, rather than the wrong one. Intuitive readings are not simply, “Yes, you’ll meet someone who’s blonde at a bar in March and be happy.”
Animal communication readings involve connecting to the soul of a client’s living animal. They’re very much like intuitive readings….but with your pet 🙂 Your animals may not be able to speak with their lips as we can, but they sure can speak energy! One of the most memorable animal communication experiences that exemplifies this, was when a repeat client asked me to work with the stray cat in her backyard. One of the first things the cat showed me when I connected to her was a grocery store rotisserie chicken. I thought, “What the heck!?” But the client laughed. She said she and her boyfriend had put the carcass of a rotisserie chicken on the back porch to try to win the cat over because she looked like she was starving but was so skittish to humans! Apparently, the cat was grateful!
Something else I recently launched, which I’m extremely proud of is an automatic writing journal. Automatic Writing is a technique I’ve taught in the past, and spoken about on my YouTube channel, which allows anyone and everyone – because we all have psychic sensory abilities – to surrender to the spirit realm (either to their own soul or to other souls) and to channel via writing. It’s called, “Hello, Can You Hear Me?” A 30-Day Automatic Writing Journal: Connect To Your Loved Ones in Spirit for Grief Support & Guidance Through Channeled Writing Instructions & Prompts” It’s available on Amazon for physical sale and in PDF format on my website. Automatic writing is a wonderful communicative start for those who may struggle with mind chatter during meditation, or for those who may struggle with trust when it comes to their own spirit communication abilities.
I also offer spiritual mentorship sessions and teach live courses from time to time. I do have a self-paced, lifetime access spirit communication workshop, designed for everyday people to communicate with their own loved ones through meditation. That course is entitled Limitless: A Soul Workshop For Spiritual Awareness. Registration is available on my website.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most important area that was most impactful on my journey early on was community. Truthfully, if this were not the internet era and I was not able to find like-minded people to develop my abilities with, I don’t think or know how I would have ever been able to do what I’m doing. Without development and training in energy work, like-minded people to observe and talk to just to know I wasn’t “crazy’. I would have been clueless of how to explore my abilities, or how to learn more. I would have also lacked confidence. Finding community was paramount to my progression in the beginning. And the internet allowed for that. If you are seeking to develop in mediumship or energy work, try to find your people. You don’t need to stay with them forever, but in the beginning, they are important.
Beyond community, self-development was and continues to be paramount to my journey, as does reminding myself to rest and that I matter too.
Self-development should occur in tandem with mediumship development, and it never stops. Self-development is lifelong, and probably beyond if we’re being honest, right? If I stopped self-development, my thinking and processing of concepts would stop, and if that happened, what would be the point? Spirituality equates to seeking, and seeking equates to working on yourself in some way, shape, or form. So, if self-development were to stop, not only would I feel like I would or should have no business helping others, but I feel like that [stopping self-development] and spirituality would be oxymorons. Thus, if you seek to enter this field or a side-arm of it, do know that you will always be seeking. And not just for the purpose of seeking, because you legitimately want to. You will find yourself with a thirst for it that doesn’t go away.
It’s important to physically rest, and I have to remind myself that I matter and need to be helped sometimes too. When you do this work, I’ve found that sometimes you literally cognitively have to remind yourself of that. It’s easy to get swallowed up in always being the helper. It’s easy to get swallowed up in always being the advice giver, the listener, and the shoulder, even when you’re not working. People start to just expect it of you. So, it’s been important on my journey to remember to try to step away from that. It’s been important on my journey to try to rest sometimes, take time off, and to force myself to not feel guilty for wanting to and doing so. Many of us in this industry are used to being of service, but that can easily swallow us up, burn us up, and spit us out if we’re not careful. So, if you are working on your energy work development, part of your development should be incorporating rest, and trying to find support for your needs too.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
I’m currently dealing with the obstacle of juggling motherhood and my career/business. My husband and I made the decision for me to begin homeschooling two of our three children a few months ago (they’re six and eight, our third is a senior in high school), and I have had the joy – and challenge – of integrating that new dynamic and responsibility into our lives and into my business. Homeschooling my children is nothing that I ever – and I mean EVER – thought I would be doing in my life. But, then again, neither is mediumship. And, yet, here I am: doing two things that a younger version of me never foresaw for herself, let alone never even thought about conceptually on her radar of potentialities for her life.
Homeschooling while also working/tackling entrepreneurship is mainly an obstacle to my physicality because I am finding myself more physically drained than I have been in years, while also being an obstacle to my mental space because I have so many thoughts, ideas, and tasks about so many things running through me at all times of the day now. But it is also an obstacle that I am finding exciting to tackle. And that’s not just semantics. I am literally excited for this new journey of our new familial, and my new business reality, and all that it entails: obstacles and all. As I go down this road, I do know that I’m going to need to keep my energetic and my physical balance in check, though, so as not to be a detriment to my own physical or mental health from exhaustion and capacity.
One thing that works well for me when it comes to obstacles, or even perceived problems in life, is to not dwell too long on emotions. Emotions pass through us. They are meant to be felt and observed, not to stay. Especially negative emotions such as fear, anger, and even sadness. When you lean too far into fear – or into anger, for example, it starts to roll downhill and multiply, until suddenly, you ARE the anger. Or, you ARE the fear. Then suddenly the anger IS you, instead of you observing the anger that is passing THROUGH you. That is where people get stuck, and where people give up, especially when it comes to fear and the many emotions that spiral off of fear and feeling as though they ‘can’t’ do or achieve something. When you realize that’s not the case, and that life is going to continue on, continue moving, and that you truly will be okay no matter what happens, you can neutralize your thought patterns around obstacles.
And second, I like to mentally reframe situations. I feel like this comes naturally as you move down a spiritual path. If I have an obstacle or a problem in my life, is it REALLY a problem? Do you know how many problems in my past I used to think were problems because I was wound so tightly, and felt as though I needed to control my life too exponentially? Thousands upon thousands of problems, really, if you were to break them down to daily levels. But, now, 10, 12, 25 years later, those ended up no longer mattering in the grand scheme of things? So, when I start feeling a problem or an obstacle, I re-write the narrative immediately. The narrative can be many different individualized, unique things specific to the situation. And, as a result, truthfully, I don’t really get upset about much anymore. I have to be having a really, really bad raw, raw moment to get upset. It seems copacetic, but most things in life truly are just neutral. It’s us humans who make things problematic.
