We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sarah Paige. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sarah below.
Hi Sarah, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Discovering my purpose a musician stemmed from a deeply ingrained need for self-expression. My music and songs became a sanctuary, a way to release and understand pent-up emotions. But beyond just personal catharsis, I realized that my music and lyrics created a bridge, connecting me to listeners in profound ways. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that my music aids others in navigating the complexities of life. At its core, though, beyond all these reasons, is the sheer joy I find in creating and sharing music. It’s a passion that brings pure enjoyment to my soul and, hopefully, to the hearts of those who listen.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an independent artist from Baltimore, MD. I perform at different venues and events, like restaurants, wineries, and showcases. My most recent single “You Have My Heart” was released at the end of August along with a music video. Right now I’m in the process of recording songs that I’ve held onto for years now, and I’m excited to release them into the world for others to hear.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, there are three big qualities that have been instrumental: patience, accountability, and the art of songwriting. Patience is a virtue in the music world. The industry can be demanding, and success is rarely immediate. I’m learning to wait, to hone my craft, and to let things unfold naturally. Holding oneself accountable is essential too. Whether it’s setting aside designated time each day to practice or write or pushing myself to finish a song, this self-discipline has been key. And then there’s the craft of songwriting. I’ve discovered that the most impactful messages often come from saying a lot with very little. If a song or melody stirs emotions in someone, even just a twinge, I know I’m on the right track. For those who are just at the start of their musical journey, I’d say always remind yourself of your ‘why’ when things get tough. Maintain your confidence and never leave an idea untouched. Explore every musical avenue, because you genuinely never know which path will lead you to your next masterpiece.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to cultivate an environment where I never felt the need to hide my art or diminish my self-expression. They understood the effort and passion I poured into my work, and they always encouraged me to share it with the world. Their support was genuine and unwavering, yet they never sugar-coated their feedback, which was invaluable in my growth as an artist. It wasn’t just one gesture, but a combination of countless acts, big and small, that molded me into the person and musician I am today. I vividly remember times when I faced criticism or doubt from others; it was their foundational confidence that kept me going. They were my greatest supporters, showing up at every gig I played, regardless of how insignificant it may have seemed. Their presence and belief in me, even during the rough patches, helped me through my journey.
