We recently connected with Stephanie Heeb and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Without a shadow of doubt, my work ethic comes from my dad. He has always worked hard and still does. Growing up, I watched my dad, a single parent, navigate the challenges of life with an unyielding spirit. He worked long hours and was always striving to do his best. All to ensure that I had everything I needed and to give me the best life he possibly could. I know raising me alone while achieving his goals wasn’t easy but his sheer determination and grit allowed him to overcome the challenges. Growing up and watching him succeed became the foundation of my aspirations. He showed me the true meaning of determination and taught me that although life would at times present its share of hardships, with the right attitude and strong work ethic, anything was possible.
As I got older I realized that his relentless work ethic was not only about providing for our needs but also about instilling in me the value of hard work and the pursuit of excellence. I know that my work ethic, my drive, and my resilience were all influenced by his unwavering commitment to succeed. That with perseverance and a burning desire to achieve, dreams can become reality. To this day I carry with me the lessons I’ve learned from my dad. I’ve watched him continuously climb the ladder of success and it inspires me to do the same. Because of him, I know that success is born out of hard work and dedication and I can only hope to be the same type of example for others, especially my son.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Regarding the qualities that made a difference in my entrepreneurial journey, I’d have to highlight self-discipline, resilience, and strategic thinking.
There were times when I first started my business that I wasn’t sure I would make it. I wanted a successful and thriving company and of course that doesn’t happen overnight. Running a business is like navigating a winding road with its share of bumps and hurdles. The ability to bounce back after setbacks and keep pushing toward your goals is what resilience is all about. I’m so glad that I never let myself give up.
Being an entrepreneur often means working solo, and that’s where self-discipline comes in. In the early days of YourChoice Concierge, I put in a lot of extra hours, often sacrificing time with family and friends. Those unpaid late nights were an investment that’s paid off as the business has grown. It’s about staying focused, avoiding distractions, and making sure you accomplish your goals.
Strategic thinking is like having a roadmap for your business journey. It involves planning for the long run, setting clear goals, and then putting effective strategies into action. As I started with YourChoice Concierge, I realized the importance of documenting processes that streamlined different aspects of the business. From bringing in new team members to managing tasks, payroll, and invoicing, these step-by-step procedures were a game changer. It takes a lot of effort upfront, but the time saved and the increased efficiency down the road are well worth it.
So, in a nutshell, these qualities and skills aren’t about being fancy; they’re the real-world tools that have helped me build and grow my business.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When the weight of overwhelm or burnout begins to take its toll, I’ve come to recognize that it’s a clear signal—it’s time to delegate. In the intricate balance of responsibilities, learning what not to do holds as much significance as knowing what to do. It’s a lesson I impart to both myself and our valued clients: you have to delegate to elevate. It’s a phrase that encapsulates the essence of growth, emphasizing that expanding your horizons often involves relinquishing the reins on certain aspects. As much as I’d love to be a one-person powerhouse, the reality is that the path to success requires letting go of certain tasks.
For those grappling with where to start, I recommend a simple yet effective approach. Begin by jotting down all your responsibilities, laying bare the landscape of your commitments. Then, with an objective eye, identify tasks that can be seamlessly transitioned to others. It’s about discerning the duties that don’t necessarily require your unique touch. And if uncertainty still lingers, know that you’re not alone on this path. Reach out, connect, and tap into resources that can propel you forward. The YourChoice Concierge team, for instance, stands ready to untangle the web of tasks that may be stacking up and making you feel overwhelmed. Delegation isn’t a sign of weakness or detachment—it’s a strategic maneuver that fuels progress. It’s about recognizing that by unburdening yourself from tasks that can be effectively handled by others, you free up mental and emotional space.
