We recently connected with Angela Moore and have shared our conversation below.
Angela, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I majored in music at a school that was very rigorous and had high expectations of its students. I learned very quickly that in order to succeed I had to be organized and on top of my school work. The same skill set transfers over to working within an industry that requires many of the same aspects: on the wedding day my team and I need to be organized, detail oriented, and able to adapt to any changes or challenges that need to be addressed on site.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have been an event florist since 2019 and when I started, I didn’t have aspirations to do anything big. I was just hoping to continue to be creative as I raised my small children. However, I experienced lots of growth and bookings which led me to renting a retail space this May!
Right now I’m in the middle of opening my first storefront in the historic section of St. Peters! I’m excited to be able to start offering classes/workshops, a build-your-own-bouquet bar, and of course, lots of flowers!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’d say that tenacity, being open to learning, and going after what I wanted were the most impactful. When I decide I want to do something, I do it!
If you’re someone who is just starting out in your flower career, sign up for workshops. Ask to shadow in a shop! YouTube is also a great resource. However, I did learn a lot from the local floral community as well. I would ask to come learn from the designers who were already working in style I admired which was incredibly helpful, so if you know of a florist who is already established I would reach out and ask! But be open to helpful critiques as well, don’t assume you know everything. Flower arranging is an art form that you never stop learning about.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My parents were always at all of my events growing up. They showed unconditional support with whatever I wanted to do, whether it was dig a hole in the ground of their yard to build an in-ground pool (sorry about that, mom and dad!) or come watch me in a college opera production, I always knew I could count on them which made me less fearful of failure.
