We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Taliah McGhee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Taliah with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Honestly… my work ethic stems from how I was raised. I was raised around go getters. If there was anything they wanted or needed they went and got it! That mentality just rubbed off on me… If I can do it myself I’m going to do it. If I have a goal I’m going to chase it.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a full time entrepreneur/MSW student. When it comes to my brand, I just love seeing how people create their own looks. My brand is called Blossomed Co, the focus of my brand is all accessories. The art of fashion is my second love, and accessories contribute a lot to that art! The message I want anyone to take away from my brand is to just be you! That’s why I love it some much…. I have very simple pieces that can be everyday, but I have those pieces that can make a statement. It’s all about the person, I enjoy helping others in a fashion sense but also mental sense. Which is why I am going to school for Social Work to become a therapist. It may seem like two different paths but my goal is to accomplish the same thing in both.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe being hard working, optimistic but realistic can help in any journey you take. I know it’s crazy to put optimistic and realistic in the same sentence, but be optimistic in the sense of thinking positive. Just make sure you are making realistic decisions. I also think having patience with your journey and knowing you cannot rush your time is major. We tend to let social media allow us to think we should be at a certain level when everyone’s journey is so different. I think doing deep research before you go into anything will be super beneficial… I can’t say I have all the knowledge, but if I knew a lot of stuff back then my time would have been saved!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes! I want to really collaborate with more people in the fashion world. Photoshoots, fashion shows, magazines you name it! I want to see my pieces everywhere in the fashion industry. Would love to connect more with social media mangers, want to take my platforms to another level. I’m super open to meeting, connecting and collaborating with new people.
