We caught up with the brilliant and insightful RENITA FORREST a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
RENITA, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
I dedicate at least one day per week (usually a Friday night) to not do anything social or work-related. I relax, meditate, eat my favorite snacks, watch my favorite shows, listen to music, take naps, and spend time alone.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the owner/managing attorney of a boutique law firm: Forrest Law PLLC which is based in Southfield, MI. We specialize in probate law and estate planning.
I am also a part-time adjunct professor at Oakland Community College where I teach probate law terminology to Paralegal students.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Perseverance Organizational Skills
Time Management
I would advise someone to get acclimated to prioritizing and calendaring-this will save so much time and aid in your overall efficiency. We are human and we forget things! We have so much advanced technology to help stay on top of tasks.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Believe it or not, the most impactful did my parents did for me is refused to financially support my pursuit of higher education. While it made the journey longer and much more difficult, It forced me to be a good steward and I appreciate the money I earn so much more because I invested in my own education versus someone else paying for it.
