Meet Elena Lamadrid

We were lucky to catch up with Elena Lamadrid recently and have shared our conversation below.

Elena, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?
My self-discipline stems from my years as a professional ballet dancer, where rigorous training and dedication were instilled at a very young age. Ballet taught me the value of consistent hard work, setting high standards for myself, and pushing through challenges. These principles have carried over into my career as a Pilates teacher and a small business owner. The desire to maintain the excellence I achieved as a dancer and to provide the best possible experience for my clients fuels my self-discipline. It’s this commitment that has allowed me to successfully expand to a second location, ensuring that both studios continue to deliver to the Nashville community the best Pilates experience and uplift our community through movement.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a retired professional ballet dancer who’s passion for helping others & movement was a natural progression into a pilates instructor, educator and business owner. As a Pilates teacher and business owner, I’m dedicated to helping people improve their overall well-being through mindful movement.

What’s most exciting and special about our brand is the transformative power of Pilates. It’s not just about physical fitness; it’s about building strength, flexibility, and balance, both in body and mind. Our intimate class sizes, highly skilled instructors and our modern approach pilates sets us apart.

In the next few weeks, we’re expanding to a second location in East Nashville! This means more opportunities for you to experience the benefits of Pilates and join our growing community. We’ll be offering special promotions and events to celebrate the grand opening, so stay tuned for exciting updates!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey of starting a new business, I believe the three most impactful skills, or areas of knowledge were resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning.

My advice to those early in their journey of embarking on a new career or business venture is to develop a strong mindset and not let failures define you. Learn from them, adapt, and keep pushing towards your goals. The world is constantly changing, and the ability to adapt to new circumstances and opportunities is crucial. It’s essential to be open to new ideas, technologies, and ways of doing things. To develop adaptability, I would recommend staying curious and not getting too comfortable in your comfort zone. Embrace change and view it as a chance to grow and evolve. Throughout my journey, I found that the willingness to continuously learn and improve my skills was a significant factor in my success. My advice to those starting out is to never stop learning. Seek out new information, take courses, read books, and connect with mentors who can help you expand your knowledge and skills.

My journey has taught me that resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning are three qualities that can make a significant impact. So, my advice to those early in their journey is to cultivate these qualities and always strive to improve them. Embrace challenges, stay open to change, and never stop learning, and you’ll be well on your way to achieving your goals.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Opening my second Pilates studio has been an exciting yet challenging journey, and I’m incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received from various people in my life including my fiancé, parents, family & friends. My fiancé & parents keep the challenges one faces everyday with running a business in perspective. Its easy to get caught up on things that are going wrong however, its only a set back and an opportunity to learn and problem solve. Its easy to get caught up in those things but having a strong support system really allows you to stay level headed when things may become overwhelming, chaotic or seem impossible. These people have stuck by me through all the ups and downs of running and growing a business and couldn’t be more grateful and thankful for these people in my life.
