We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chef Ashley Dominique. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chef Ashley Dominique below.
Chef Ashley Dominique, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
Your haters are LITERALLY your motivators!
You have to keep going NO MATTER WHAT. NO MATTER who doesn’t believe you or who’s speaking against you.
Always remember:
Psalm 23:5-6 KJV
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointed my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Amen.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m Chef Ashley Dominique also know as Chef Ash. I’m a Traveling Personal & Private Chef from Slidell,Louisiana. Since 2020 I’ve had the pleasure of being a Personal Chef for professional athletes. I just finished up with my offseason client, Mitchell Robinson #23-New York Knicks. In the next week I’ll be traveling to Georgia for the 2023-2024 NFL season to Chef for my client, Albert Huggins #94-Atlanta Falcons. I’m looking forward to being in Atlanta for the season since it’ll be my first time out there for a season.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Let your work speak for yourself.
I’m a firm believer if you love what you do it’ll show in your work.
The biggest compliment that I receive a lot from a client is that they can tell that I love what I do from the presentation to the taste.
2. Have tunnel vision.
No matter what is going on around you stay focused on your goal.
If I were to listen to other people I wouldn’t have took that leap of faith to work for myself.
3. Never be afraid to be a student.
Meaning never be afraid to look for ways to improve or better your craft.
I have a Chef friend that I look up to that’ll reach out every so often to give me feed back on my content. He also gives me insight on things that I’ll forever be the for.
Shout out to Chef Kenny James!
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I had the opportunity to meet Chef Kenny James in the summer of 2020 through a mutual friend. He gave me so much insight and knowledge when I was transitioning to become a Chef for professional athletes. He’s been in the industry for numerous years and essentially gave me the green light to this realm.
