We were lucky to catch up with Catrina Clark recently and have shared our conversation below.
Catrina, sincerely appreciate your selflessness in agreeing to discuss your mental health journey and how you overcame and persisted despite the challenges. Please share with our readers how you overcame. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Mental health is the focus of my business. This illness has permeated my family for a few generations. My mother, suffered from mental illness, so much so that my 3 siblings and I were unable to be raised by her. I grew up in foster care with my 2 brothers. We were fortunately able to be raised by my mother’s brother, our uncle, and his wife. But unfortunately, we were abused in various ways. To my knowledge, my mother and 2 known uncles lived with mental illness. I have heard stories about their childhood, which included more than 10 siblings, some died as infants and 1 died by accidentally being shot. My grandfather was an alcoholic, to which they attribute to mental illness.
With this as my history and then being an abused child, it was supposed to be my destiny to be drugged up, mentally hospitalized, and not thriving in life. However, once I reconnected with my mother after becoming a mother myself, and right after she passed away, I decided to create a business in her honor. Since I promote “Mind Your Mind”, I become what I advocate, which is to intentionally focus on what I am thinking, how it makes me feel, and why I have those particular thoughts. Being still with oneself, dissecting what is mentally residing within, and discovering if it is valid, helps greatly with staving off anxiety, stress, and various other potential mental health attacks.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Louisa57 is the name of my coaching practice. It is dedicated to carrying on the legacy of Laverne Louise Clark, who passed away 3 months before she turned 57. Louisa57’s programs are, Mind Your Mind, which is the flagship program and FOREX Is For You Too, a program to teach individuals FOREX which is a financial exchange system. Both programs focus on mental applications, strategies, some workbooks/assignments, 1:1 coaching, and some group coaching. I am passionate about our minds, emotions, and development.
In addition to my coaching programs, I host a talk show called Mind Moments with Coach Catrina. The talk show is a platform for entrepreneurs to tell their stories of business, balance, and life. I also ask entrepreneurs to give or demonstrate what they do to maintain their mental and emotional balance as they continue to stay committed to their business.
I am currently working on a magazine/newsletter that will highlight guests who are on my talk show as well as give updates about all things Louisa57. The relaunch of FOREX Is For You Too (FXIS4U2) will be taking on new learners in the latter part of October 2023. Additionally, I will host small local events for entrepreneurs to meet up, vent, and celebrate their businesses. I want to expand the opportunities for entrepreneurs/business owners to feel supported and ward off depression, giving up, and being drained.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Some of my God-given talents that have been beneficial to me as a coach are my patience, empathy, and my ability to listen. These have to be tweaked at times and groomed. I am also a lifelong learner, which is seen by having my degree in psychology, becoming certified as a life coach, and a host of other certifications.
For those early in their journeys, my advice is to be willing to be groomed and be open to continue to learn. There are a lot of free education and resources available. But before doing that, be still for a moment and connect to your gifts, talents, and passions. As you pursue becoming what you desire or are passionate about, don’t stop. Get you a circle that will encourage you. Get a coach/mentor. Obstacles and life will come. However, there is something great and unique about what you are working to manifest. You must continue to pursue it, even if that requires taking a break now and then. Only break to reset and then continue progressing.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
For the past 12 months I have been focusing on creating a foundation for my business. Prior to that, I was excited to be working full-time for myself. However, once the excitement of that wore off and all that was required to live and maintain life became more of a focus to give my time and attention to, I had to reevaluate how I wanted my business to be and what my purpose for establishing it was. I decided to learn about the setup of a stable business. I found resources that helped me to develop a business for longevity and develop myself as a well-rounded business owner. Since I have done that, I am able to evaluate where I was this time last year and see the growth behind the scenes. Now that I have done this, I am more clear and connected to my business and know that it is not a temporary project but an actual legacy.
