We recently connected with Elisa Nicole and have shared our conversation below.
Elisa, sincerely appreciate your selflessness in agreeing to discuss your mental health journey and how you overcame and persisted despite the challenges. Please share with our readers how you overcame. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Mental health can be a crazy battle. Sometimes you can see the battle that is happening. Other times you can’t see it, let alone label it. Given my background, balancing mental health has been such a journey. This journey has had some major growing pains to say the least. I have also had some wonderful highs. I wish I could say there was some magic formula to get through. Truly the one thing I can say was most consistent when navigating challenges, is the drive to always be the best version of myself. Even in my harder moments I’ve never not wanted to be the best version of myself. A lot of people will tell you “show up even when you do not feel like it.” I took that, and started living my version of that. When I don’t feel like showing up, I check in with myself. I see where my head is at. Then I decide if “showing up” is really good for me mentally, or do I need to take a second to regroup so I can “show up”.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have been in the industry for 11 years. Beauty and people are my passion. Helping people experience a side of themselves, they’ve only dreamed about is one of my favorite parts about. I am a medical esthetician, Hair and makeup artist, and creative director. Makeup and hair has always been something I’ve loved since I was young. I grew up doing ballet that’s what started my love for all things beauty related and productions. I enjoyed the fact you could be as extravagant as you wanted and no one judged you. In fact, that level of self-expression was appreciated. I got into esthetics by accident. I was sitting at a cross road in my life trying to decide my next move. I knew leaving my industry wasn’t an option but I was craving more than I was receiving. Creative directing sort of just fell into my lap. Between hair and makeup, and modeling, creative directing just fell not my lap. One of my favorite things about being involved with all of these trades is the fact they are all related in some way. “Find a job you enjoy doing, you’ll never work a day in your life.”- Mark Twain
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I don’t think there is 3 specifically. Each person I different. Some people require more than others. For me only two things come to mind. discipline and consistency. Both are very common things people talk about often, but they quite literally are the formula for success. It has taken many years for me to understand the importance of both. No matter what you do for. a living or the message you’re trying to convey. You have to be disciplined and consistent. Being discipled starts the foundation of how you’re going to do things. How much effort you put in, is exactly what you will get back and then some. Consistency helps to reinforce not giving up. In order to be closer to being successful, you can’t give up.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I check I with myself. If I’m unable to do that, I start writing down my emotions in that I am feeling in the Moment. Sometimes it’s nice to just get them out in the open.
