Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Darren Haskins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Darren, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Through trial and error mostly. I’ve done my best to read the room and body language of others to recognize when I may be doing too much or too little then try to find a balance with those I am around. It’s always good to take risks but understanding when and when not to take them is how we learn to navigate through life and relationships as we grow.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
From a young age I always knew I wanted to entertain. It started off with dancing and acting like a goofball on camera that developed into playing sports, mainly baseball, and when that didn’t work out after college I knew I could fall back into film. Originally, I thought I would strictly be acting but after attending New York Film Academy in Studio City,Ca I learned how to write screenplays and from there I grew a passion for creating stories I wanted to see. Fast forward a decade later and I’ve stayed busy writing many comedy sketches, some you can watch on The World of Bliss on YouTube, co-wrote and acted in a comedy web series,THREE BIRDS, written a handful of features, and over a dozen short stories one of which has been making the film festival rounds that I directed called HARD AS IT GETS, and just finished post production on another short I wrote, directed, produced, and acted in called WHERE IS MY MIND? Definitely be on the look out for them in the next year at a festival near you.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Solid communication with those you work with , patience/faith in your abilities, and discipline of external temptations in order to stay focused on what your spirit wants. Don’t be afraid to take chances and look like a fool because failure will be your best teacher. We all have to start somewhere and for the majority of us it’s at the bottom. Take notes of what works and what doesn’t with your audience.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The Wisdom of Solomon with insights by Henry Morris is a great read for anyone looking to improve their mind, body, and spirit. The world can be a crazy confusing place and with technology influencing us to be impatient and need instant gratification this book can help rethink how we approach our goals with family, friends, relationships, and our work life.
