We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Izzy Spears a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Izzy , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I developed my confidence and self-esteem through emulation. I watched this show as a pre-teen. It was about how to get over social anxiety and shyness. I took those tools and applied them to my life. The show would suggest that people ask strangers for the time or for directions to build confidence and the ability to navigate talking to strangers. This tactic worked for me. I often suggest people to do the same. Outside of those tips, I build confidence and self-esteem by saying positive affirmations such as, “if not me then who”? or reminding myself that no one is perfect and I deserve grace, I will make mistakes and I deserve the opportunity to enjoy life. I allow myself to show up with my imperfections. It eliminates so many pressures we put on ourselves.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a person that wears many hats. I love to learn, explore, and make the world a better place along the way. I want to use my interests and talents to grant opportunists I was deprived of! I run two digital magazines, PaSH Magazine and Red PaSH Magazine. Our company launched two size inclusive clothing brands, Plurvy and Curvy Girls Rock. We create podcasts, content, communities on social media and tell stories that impact other minority groups in a positive matter. We just launched our body positive coloring book on Amazon, it is called All Bodies Are Art, https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/bodies-are-art-abigail-phillips/1143776634. We are always busy creating, check us out at www.pashinc.com.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
x
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We are always looking to collaborate with individuals, businesses and other creatives. The work of spreading body positivity and self-love is never ending and takes the shape and the form of many mediums. No matter if it is a photographer who loves telling stories via visuals or the plus-size model who is just screaming for a chance, we love to collab. Partnership is key. We are just an email or dm or phone call away. Don’t be a stranger because closed mouths don’t get fed.
