We recently connected with Caslin Rose and have shared our conversation below.
Caslin, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I love this question, and I truly believe developing confidence and self-esteem is a journey.
Growing up, I was probably one of the most shy people you’d ever meet. It’s not that I was self-sabotaging, but I was scared of judgment and what other people thought of me. I never felt that I was “good enough” even though I was a champion athlete with numerous titles to my name. I was raised to be conscious of other people’s feelings and how I treated them, but it was never really emphasized that I needed to do the same for myself. As a child, you only know what you know, and so if someone said something unfavorable, I believed them.
Once I hit puberty, I kinda just fell into the classic teenage “I don’t care attitude”, and that included what other people thought of me.
My partner shared with me a message that his mother said to him growing up, “Not every doctor graduated with good grades.” That was a major light bulb moment for me. I had never thought about that before, I just assumed everyone else was better than me because that’s how it appeared. We all struggle at times with self-doubt and confidence, but it’s important to tell yourself that you are good enough, you are worthy, and you are ready. Fake it till you make it if you have to because everyone else does.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am both an on-camera actress and TV host. My venture into podcasting was born out of a desire to share my knowledge and experiences with individuals seeking a career in the entertainment industry. Through my journey, I’ve encountered numerous challenges and learned valuable lessons, and my goal is to help others avoid these pitfalls. Always Acting Up podcast interviews directors, writers, Grammy-winning musicians, and so many more talented artists.
I had a baby earlier in the year, so I am currently on hiatus; however, all of my work can still be found on my website, CaslinRose.com, YouTube channel, and all podcasting platforms.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1) Editing 2) Creating an opportunity for myself
3) Relentless
1) I learned how to edit by chance. I didn’t go out of my way to learn; instead, my partner got tired of me asking him to edit my headshots and demo reels so he ended up teaching me how to do it myself. I would say this was by far one of my biggest blessings. It has allowed me to be self-sufficient, save thousands of dollars, and create my own content.
2) Learning how to do basic video editing has allowed me to create my own projects. Am I an amazing editor, no, but I have the creative freedom and ability to produce whatever it is I want. Fortunately, this skillset was able to transfer over, and I was able to teach myself how to edit and produce my own podcast, Always Acting Up, which can be found on all podcasting platforms and YouTube.
3) While I have achieved a great amount of success, there are still a lot of goals I would like to check off my list. I have a burning passion for creating, and I just don’t like settling for good.
For anyone beginning their journey and looking to develop, I would encourage you to learn something that will complement and expand your current skillset. You never know what opportunities may arise because you can do XYZ.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Like many entrepreneurs, I’m always looking to collaborate and connect with like-minded and hard-working individuals seeking career growth, especially in the entertainment industry where your network is your networth.
I have often found it difficult in the past to find my tribe of creatives who are willing to put in as much work as I am, even when money is involved. I am task-oriented, high-achieving, and procrastination prolongs my anxiety. Communication goes a long way. I’d love to connect with people who like to think outside the box in terms of business, marketing, or producing. I’m always open to listening.
Nowadays, I haven’t quite found a flow with the new baby, and I am definitely much slower than I typically would be, but I always follow through. It just may take longer than before.
