We recently connected with Katrina Cross-Daniels and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Katrina , so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
I have learned to make a presence in the room. I use to be very quiet and shy. I wouldn’t say much to anyone not even my own family. I have insecurities about me that kept me from talking much. I never liked my smile and my big eyes. So, I always felt talking to someone meant they were looking right at my flaws.
After, hearing so many compliments from other about what I pictured as flaws. I decided to embrace the way I looked and stop running. I realized to grow and be successful I needed to communicate.
There are plenty of times where I have been in rooms and no one looks like me so, it’s even harder but needed to standout. Now, that I can hold conversation with anyone some people may feel I am doing too much. But, in a world where I never felt you belong. I now realize I do deserve to be in these rooms. I can’t focus on what others feel. I am now embracing I DESERVE THIS!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I love photography and seeing what I do really makes people light up with joy and excitement. I change lives with beautiful portraits.
I feel my boudoir photography is really special. I help women see themselves differently with portraits they are excited about displaying in their homes. Women do so much for everyone else and never take time to just focus on them.
I see women as caregivers, mothers, wives, entrepreneurs, supporters etc. My passion is for them to see themselves as beautiful women who just happen to be all the other things to everyone else.
I am working on launching my “ I Am Worthy” Campaign. This will allow women to book a session and we will highlight what makes them worthy through imagery and video clip. This will be a limited campaign for a selected number of women.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Creative, Professional, Personable
The best advice I have for people on this journey is to really do a deep dive into your WHY! It is very important as a photographer and a client to understand why this is important.
How would you describe your ideal client?
It is very easy to find my ideal client. My ideal client simply put is the EVERYDAY WOMAN! She is a mother, wife, caregiver, entrepreneur, girl boss, a fighter to overcome adversities, she is driven and determined to be EMPOWERED! She is every listener and viewer. She is YOU! Every woman deserves to feel beautiful and be unapologetic to owning her sensual side. We as women do so much for everyone else that you deserve to have a boudoir experience for you.
