We recently connected with Sean Kinsey and have shared our conversation below.
Sean , thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My confidence about my future has always been there since I was younger because I knew the things I wanted to achieve were very important to me, even in the moments of making bad decisions or mistakes, they were always learning lessons that I used to motivate myself to achieve those goals. I always felt like the underdog, so I always have something to prove, mainly prove to myself that I can achieve anything.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a visual artist from North & the Uptown section of Philadelphia who’s also known as “SK”. My work is considered an urban art style of painting as it has similarities to a street art aesthetic, but it’s intended for a gallery viewer. I’m self-taught & that’s what I really love about my story the most, as it was challenging to introduce myself in the art world.. My work is mainly about making people happy & spreading messages of love & positivity.
I typically use symbols of smiles, hearts and peace signs along with uplifting words with my self-identifying
SK Art logo. The brand logo is visually depicted in outlines with slight variations, but it always features a face that has two eyes, the number 22 in one eye, and a smiling mouth with 5 teeth. The number 22 is specific to my mother’s birthday, being as though she’s a huge part of my daily motivation, it’s my number when I played basketball as a semi profession, & my personal motto which is composed of 22 letters, “inspiration for creation.
The most exciting part about my career as an artist is witnessing how much art has an impact all over the world, how it brings people together from all walks of life, but it’s mainly exciting because I get to show my creativity, what goes through my mind, and being able to express that on a canvas. It’s definitely a hard business but the challenges are what keeps me going. I love what I do.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
It was mainly the knowledge and inspirational conversations from my loved ones that were a huge impact on my journey. My mom for example, til this day she always tells me to never quit, always keep going and everything will be fine.. Also, my Uncle, who was actually my Godfather & a father figure to me, always said to me “Keep going son, I’m telling your time is coming, just don’t give up; keep going. Don’t focus on people who don’t support you & focus on the people who do, and always Love On Purpose.” Love on Purpose was his motto and my family continues to keep that motto and his legacy alive. Overall, my close family and the friends who are family is what keeps me going. I can’t thank Allah enough for them.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m definitely looking forward to collaborating with brands in any industry, wherever my skills or creativity can be useful. Collaboration is an important part of your career as an artist or any entrepreneur, and that’s something I’m looking forward to do a lot more as I’ve done in the past. I can be reached via email at SKinfo@seankinseyart.com if anyone is interested in connecting & collaboration. As the saying goes, “teamwork makes the dream work”
