Meet Butta B-Rocka

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Butta B-Rocka a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Butta , great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
I developed my ability to take risks by learning from my setbacks. I realized that failure is a natural part of life, and it’s how we learn and grow. I challenged myself to set out of my comfort zone, I also learned that I’m stronger and more resilient than I thought I was.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I think the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey are:

1. Resilience: The ability to bounce back from setbacks and challenges is essential for success in any field. There will be times when things don’t go according to plan, but it’s important to keep moving forward and learn from your mistakes.
2. Persistence: It takes time and effort to achieve your goals. Don’t give up easily, even when things get tough. Keep working hard and believing in yourself.
3. Creativity: Thinking outside the box and coming up with new ideas is important for success in any industry. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things.

Here is some advice for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge:

Resilience:
• Develop a positive mindset. Focus on your strengths and accomplishments. Believe in yourself and your ability to succeed.
• Learn from your mistakes. Don’t dwell on your failures. Instead, view them as opportunities to learn and grow.

Persistence:
• Set realistic goals.
• Celebrate your successes. Take the time to acknowledge your accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem. This will help you stay positive and motivated.
• Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you’re struggling, don’t be afraid to reach out to others for support.

Creativity:
• Expose yourself to new ideas. Read books, watch TED Talks, and attend events that will spark your creativity.
• Experiment and try new things. Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and try new things. This is the best way to come up with new ideas.
• Collaborate with others. Bouncing ideas off of other people can help you to come up with more creative solutions.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest area of growth and improvement in the past 12 months has been opening myself up to other possibilities. For many years, I was focused on music, but when I had a setback that made me unable to tour for a year, I had to figure out my other strengths. I had to open myself up and explore all my talents, and from that my books, podcast, magazines, products, and film were born.

This was a huge step for me, and I’m proud of myself for taking it. I’ve learned that I’m capable of more than I thought I was, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.

If you’re feeling stuck in a rut, I encourage you to open yourself up to other possibilities.
