Meet Monique Williams

We recently connected with Monique Williams and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Monique, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
I prioritize relaxation, stay active, connect with loved ones, nourish my body, engage in hobbies, and practice self-compassion. These are intentional strategies that I find to be effective so that I can replenish, renew, and restore my mind, body, and soul.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hello, my name is Monique. I am a poet. I have a deep passion for words and love expressing myself through the art of poetry. I believe that poetry has the power to convey emotions, evoke thought, and create connections with others. I enjoy exploring various themes and styles in my writing, seeking to capture the essence of the human experience. I have been writing poetry since the age of eight years old and have had the opportunity to share my work in local newspapers and perform at open mics. I am excited to connect with fellow poets, engage in meaningful conversations, and continue growing as an artist

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are creativity, perseverance, and empathy. I will offer advice to anyone early in their journey to allow time for solitude. Writing poetry can be challenging and sometimes solitary pursuit is needed to be effective on the journey. It requires dedication, discipline, and a willingness to push through creative blocks and setbacks.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed by the process. I take a break. I step away from writing because it gives me time and space to breathe. I will then prioritize and delegate important tasks and responsibilities, create a to-do list and prioritize the tasks based on urgency and importance. I seek support from friends, family or colleagues. I practice self-care because it replenishes my energy and helps build resiliency.
