We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angel Kinnel a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Angel, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I developed my confidence and self-esteem by choosing to follow my heart. My heart led me on a journey in 2019 to Jamaica, right after I graduated from college. I lived there for about 4 months, and I journeyed all around the island. I traveled with someone who taught me the importance of using my gifts and talents that were given to me, from the Source.
I also met so many beautiful people, on the island, that made use of their natural gifts in a way that sustained their livelihood. This concept was so new to my mind, because many people I knew from home, worked jobs for money. Rather than working for fulfillment, and creative expression. My mind had been opened to the infinite possibilities, of how I could express myself and lead my life.
Once I returned home, to the states, in 2020, I began creating jewelry. This happened right before the pandemic took place. All throughout the pandemic, and lockdown, I continuously and restlessly created jewelry nonstop. The people of my local community and international community have shown support to me every step of the way.
I create from the purest place in my heart; A place that does no require validation from the outside world. This is what developed my confidence and self-esteem. Because I was able to see my value first, others were also able to witness it. Hearing and receiving praise from so many others about the beauty of my creations is what encouraged me to never stop. All the gratification I was giving myself, was reflected back to me from so many others.
It showed me that I was on the right path and that my reason for being alive was greater than I could ever imagine.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
The name of my business, Earth Angel Heals, came from my desire to show others how I sustain good health on my journey in life. In the beginning, I was more focused on diet, then it grew towards creative artistic expression. The original intention of my business was to show others how I heal myself, then it developed into something that heals others.
I began using every ounce of free time I had to create jewelry. I love creating so much because I am able to utilize natural resources, such as metals and gemstones, by transforming them into beautiful pieces of wearable art. The best part of this is that, these natural elements carry healing properties, as well as beauty! The vast majority of my clients boast about this.
I practice ethically sourcing my material from trusted dealers and local sources when I can!
My creations are freestyled work, meaning I don’t follow patterns, I just create as I go, or sketch designs from my imagination. I also specialize in custom designs. As I grow, I am finding that my clientele wants unique pieces that were specifically designed for them. I create pieces for special purposes and occasions as well. Recently, I have created pieces for birthdays, couples, parties, children, women healing from divorce, spiritual protection, and even an urn for remembrance of a parent who passed away.
When I started creating jewelry, I worked a full time job where I was able to sell my jewelry in person and build a good rapport with my local community. Now I work full time, from home as a Jewelry designer. I offer local delivery, shipping to the US and international shipping. Although I enjoyed working from a storefront, I am so thankful for the freedom I now have, working from home. This was one of the goals I was very happy to see fulfilled this year.
As I continue to create and sell jewelry, I see myself traveling more and selling abroad, in person. Many people have also requested that I begin teaching jewelry making classes, so that is also on the horizon.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that have been most impactful on my journey are efficiency, discipline, and inspiration.
My advice to those who want to develop these three qualities within themselves is to do something you love. Do what makes you excited to live life and inspires you. When you do what you have been inspired to do, the other two things, efficiency and discipline, come more easily to you. You will begin to understand how to channel your energy towards your craft, and you will learn what is most effective/efficient.
Developing discipline is an everyday effort that requires focus and purpose. So you must have a truly fulfilling focus and purpose, beyond monetary gain, of why you are doing your craft.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was allow me to express myself without restriction. My parents never told me how to express myself. Instead, they watered and nurtured my talents. They also inspired me to express myself through example. Both of my parents have been entrepreneurs so I got to see first hand what it is like to manage a business and provide good customer support.
