We recently connected with Joe Reyes and have shared our conversation below.
Joe, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My optimism is fueled by the people around me. Staying optimistic as a leader during hard times can be challenging, but it is crucial to maintain a positive outlook to motivate and inspire those around you. I enjoy celebrating small victories as well.
I start by focusing on the big picture and then work backwards. This allows myself and my team to keep our eyes on the ultimate goal. The positive side of doing this is that it keeps us motivated and inspired.
Resilience is a grounding force for my optimism. As a leader, it is important to have the resilience to bounce back from setbacks and stay optimistic despite challenges.
Lastly, cultivating a positive team culture can amplify collaboration, open communication, and a supportive environment for the team. Inspire to build an environment where anything is possible if we work together. By fostering a positive culture the team stays motivated and optimistic, especially during the toughest of days
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Building successful teams and promoting a healthy lifestyle are the two things I love most about my work. Together, these passions drive me to establish a collaborative environment that unleashes every team member’s potential. With a healthy team culture, everyone goes all-in to blend their creative thinking with data-driven strategies, forming a powerful brand story.
I have immense pride in the work and the people I have had the pleasure of collaborating with. I was the Southeast US Regional Team Manager at the California-based brewery Lagunitas Brewing Company. I served as the Vice President of Sales, USA, for Miami-based brewer, The Tank Brewing Company.
Now I am entering the competitive world of non-alcoholic beverage sales as the Southeast Sales Director for Best Day Brewing!
As a team builder, I’ve honed a mix of product training and team motivation skills that helped establish a growth engine for scale, delivered a continual increase in sales, and strengthened partnerships with wholesalers and chains. In addition, my experience as Regional Team Manager and VP of Sales has taught me that I can:
Promote team wellness by
giving everyone a voice in the collaborative storytelling process.
promoting physical and emotional health.
encouraging a “dare to suck” mentality in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Foster my team’s creative individuality by modeling
technical depth.
business savvy.
creative flair.
Grow and implement results-oriented planning through
data-driven decision-making.
developing a collaborative performance marketing infrastructure.
showing strategic relentlessness in the game of scale.
The team leader lifestyle is my passion. If you ever want to talk about establishing a healthy growth culture, engaging in collaborative storytelling, or building a team of dedicated professionals to drive brand relevance, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I love spreading joy, creating a sense of community, and having fun especially when building brands. Working together towards a common goal naturally forges relationships within a team. Teams learn from their successes and failures, deepening their bond as they move forward. Trust and respect naturally develop with a team that grows together. And creating a fun work environment can make all the difference in creating a successful team dynamic.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
One year ago, i made a conscious decision to prioritze my health and well-being. I recognized that my lifestyle choices were not contributing to my overall health and that changes were necessary. One of the first steps I took was to abstain from alcohol and foods that were not conducive to a healthy lifestyle.
As I made this change, I noticed several positive effects. Specifically, I found that switching to non-alcoholic beverages has a significant impact on my health. Not only did it lead to better hydration and improve my mental health, but it also resulted in lower calorie intake. This change helped me feel more energized and mentally sharp throughout the day, which further motivated me to continue down this path.
As I continued to prioritize my health, I releazed that my actions were influencing others in my drinking community. Many of my friends and colleagues began to take control of their own health and make similat lifestyle changes. This was a powerful reminder of the impact that even small individual actions can have on a larger community.
Today, as an advocate for a healthy lifestyle, I am proud to say that I have become the architect of a healthy work environment for a new generation of salespeople. I am committed to promoting a culture of wellness, both for myself and for those around me. Through my experiences, I have learned that prioritizing my health is one of the most important things I can do for myself and those I care about.
After years of selling craft beer and enjoying the social atmosphere that comes with it, I decided to take a step further and pivot my career towards a new direction. I realized the there was a growing demand for non-alcoholic craft beer and saw an opportunity to not only tap into this market but also promote a healthy lifestyle for people who want to keep going without the negative effects of alcohol.
