Meet Yifan Li

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yifan Li. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Yifan, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Throughout my artistic journey, which began at a young age when I first held a colored pencil, I’ve discovered that my true purpose in life lies in the profound impact that art can have on individuals and society as a whole. Over the years, I’ve honed my skills and deepened my understanding of the artistic process, and it has become clear to me that art is a powerful means of communication, transcending language and cultural barriers.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a passionate artist and graphic designer dedicated to crafting meaningful visual stories. What excites me most is art’s power to transcend boundaries and evoke emotions. My work is known for its bold colors and youthful energy, appealing to today’s generation. I’m also eager to explore how technology can enhance my creations. Excitingly, I’ll soon pursue a master’s in graphic design at SVA, pushing the boundaries of my art. I’m open to collaborations that align with my mission of creating impactful visual narratives. I am currently working on a series of artworks about the combination of design and illustration.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back at my journey, three key elements have had a significant impact. First, unwavering passion and dedication have been essential for continuous growth. Second, the ability to infuse critical thinking and social relevance into my art has given it depth and meaning. Lastly, embracing technology and adaptability has kept my work fresh and relevant.

For those starting their journey, my advice is:

1. Cultivate Passion and Dedication: Stay committed to your passion and keep creating.
2. Embrace Critical Thinking: Develop critical thinking skills to make your art meaningful.
3. Embrace Technology: Be open to new tools and technologies to enhance your creativity.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I take a step back, prioritize tasks, and break them into smaller steps. Mindfulness exercises and deep breathing help me manage stress. Seeking support from friends or colleagues and learning to say no when necessary are crucial. Self-care, including nutrition, exercise, and sleep, is essential for resilience. If overwhelming feelings persist, professional help can provide tailored strategies.
