Meet Emily Green

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emily Green a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Emily, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
To me, my purpose is to try to be a witness to the human experience I’m having and to try to find ways to move in the direction of peace, aliveness, courage, and an open heart and move away from fear, self-protection, shame, and black and white thinking. I mention this because I want to clarify that that I see purpose as more fundamental to who we are than whatever it is we are called to offer while we are here. But of course the two parts relate to each other. I can say that being a singer-songwriter is without a doubt something I feel called to do. It is more than just a passion. Songwriting feels like an indelible part of me. I think when you write a song about your specific experiences and other people relate, you very quickly realize that we are all drinking from these same emotional rivers, albeit to varying degrees. Songwriting helps me process, yes, but it also makes me feel more connected to other people and have more empathy for people and hopefully the songs offer other people that same catharsis and connection and compassion as well.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a singer-songwriter. I recently produced my debut EP, Outrunning The Animal. It will be released on my 40th birthday, October 30th, on vinyl and streaming. The songs I’ve included on this EP are all grounded in Americana, but lean into other genres such as country, folk, blues, and more. I hope people find that the songs resonate with them and are cathartic or healing, even in some small way. My goal for my songs is that they get to the hearts that need them.
