Meet Nina Tulio

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nina Tulio a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Nina, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
We really struggled financially growing up. I watched my mom work 3 jobs for a long period of time. So I promised myself I would do what ever it takes to create a life for myself that would allow me to no stress about money. My mom worked so hard and she instilled that in me.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I have the best job ever. I help hairstylists and salon owners make more money, keep more money and build confidence. I travel the country and get to meet the coolest people while teaching business. I also work with a color brand as their business education ambassador and it allows me to serve on a bigger platform. I started out as a hairstylist for 20 years. An owner of 11 years and after selling my salon I decided to create my own consulting business which has led me here,

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say resilience, growth mindset, and truly being your authentic self. I have built my entire business on social media. People want to do business with people they know love and trust. Being vulnerable and authentic helps make real connections. Lean into your why. Do something your extremely passionate about. Be the hardest working person in the room. And always be YOU. That is the best gift you can give to anyone when doing business.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I am a pretty anxious person. I tend to think far ahead and get myself very overwhelmed. I think the one thing that worked the best for me is focusing on 1 task at a time and not dicing too far ahead. If I have a few trips coming up for work. I only focus on the next trip. It help keep me calm and really present when I am on stage or teaching others.
