We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brij Patel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brij below.
Brij, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I knew I always had a drive, my why, up until a decade ago is when I really found it. I walked out of a nasty divorce which led me to fall in love with my career and I promised myself to put our business: Sprayberry Bottle Shop on the map one day.
Thru the process. I found myself more in love with my community and surroundings. This led me to get more involved with my community and now we have one of the largest communities built around us reaching out of state as well and everytime I hear someone mention us, it makes me realize about my why, my purpose, to reach as many beings as possible to put a smile on their face.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am the owner of a liquor store establishment in Marietta, Georgia called Sprayberry Bottle Shop. It has been established since 1977, under my family name since 2002 and I stepped in and got very involved since 2008.
It has always been a mom and pop store vibe, we took it from just being a store you’d walk in and buy a bottle of booze to becoming a destination store that caters to clients from out of town and out of state. We have one of the largest private barrel programs in the south. Curating 60+ barrels a year. We began specializing in craftbeer and got on the map within a decade. For latest arrivals look up Sprayberry Bottle Shop on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Teaching myself how to market our business with trial and error was the most impactful learning experience, learning buying patterns and seeing changes, that is an ever revolving door. One thing I’ve learnt, you never stop, never give up, when you hit a wall, you turn around and find another route, you will always find a way out.
Build relationships and focus on your vision, never give up. But best of all, acknowledge failing because failing is the first step to success.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always up for collaborations, it builds our community together and my vision has to lift each other up together. I have worked on 100s of collaborations over the past decade!
