We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lauren Alleyne a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lauren, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from loving what I do. Having passion for something keeps me motivated to keep going through challenges and uncertainty. I’ve also learned to listen to my body when I start to feel burned out. Getting adequate rest allows me to recharge, put things into perspective, and remember to enjoy life outside of my business. Overloading oneself makes it easier to quit due to just sheer exhaustion.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I make bold, eclectic, one-of-a kind statement jewelry made of natural stones, crystals, and geodes! Each piece has a unique name with a special meaning that is meant to invoke a particular mood or feeling. I want the women who wear my jewelry to feel like they are wearing a true work of art. I want them to feel unique, sophisticated and confident with a touch of earthy glam!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Staying true to myself, loving what I do, and being willing to learn were three qualities that have impacted my journey. I’ve never been one to do what everyone else is doing. My goal has always been to stand out by creating something different. I don’t create to please everyone, but rather, the niche of women who appreciate my work.
Making jewelry is fulfilling in and of itself, regardless of any outcomes. That has helped me keep going through the highs and the lows, and is a wonderful creative outlet.
Lastly, Google is my right-hand man! If I want to know something, I am quick to look it up. I’ve never been one to wait on others for answers. Research, and seeking inspiration from wherever I can has opened my mind up to so many ideas. I love learning new things, about many different topics.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
This is a tough one because there are so many to choose from! I read a lot of books on psychology, quantum physics, law of attraction, and the mind. My favorite authors are Dr. Joe Dispenza, Neville Goddard, Joseph Murphy, Florence Scovel Shinn, and Frederick Dodson. I’m usually reading two or three books at a time. I believe all of life emanates from your mind, and when you conquer it, everything else will fall into place.
