Meet Ashley Johnson

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ashley Johnson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ashley below.

Hi Ashley, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I believe I get my resilience from overcoming struggles as a teenager. My family and I experienced homelessness for a 2 year period. We lived in various shelters and my mom’s friends. Now, I try to do what I can to give back and possibly help someone that is in the same situation.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Project Prom Dress San Antonio is a 501c3 nonprofit located in San Antonio, TX. Founded in 2014 by myself and my husband, Rodney, we accept donations of formal attire, shoes, and accessories. We then distribute to area teens who may need assistance so they can attend their prom or school formal event. Many miss out on this rite of passage due to the associated costs. Everything they receive is free of cost and theirs to keep!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
This was definitely a team effort and a learning curve! I would say just maintain motivation and focus on the why of your efforts.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
The challenge that we, and I sure other nonprofits face, is monetary donations. We are a volunteer operating nonprofit and all funding goes back into the organization. It allows us to have a central location for the teens to come to along with obtaining sizes we may not have.
