Meet Jacquelyn Kazas

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jacquelyn Kazas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacquelyn, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic was instilled in me at a young age from both of my parents. My mom and dad both always worked while I was growing up and set an example for me that hard work pays off. They always taught my sister and I that you have to work hard for the things you want in life, you aren’t just given them. When I set out to start my own company they were my biggest supporters, along with my husband. Having a successful business didn’t happen over night, we had to work hard to make a name for Beijos Events and continue to do so today. We work hard every day to make our clients happy, market our business on social media, and showcase our creativity through many photo shoots. Today my sons are my motivation to work hard and to show them what my parents taught me, to always work hard and good things will come to you!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I grew up in San Jose, CA and moved to Orange County for college to attend UC Irvine. I fell in love with living near the beach and the Southern California lifestyle, along with my husband which made me want to stay down here. After college I wasn’t sure of what I wanted to do and held a few different jobs in boutique retail. After my own wedding I was inspired to start my own business with a few friends doing event planning. We started doing weddings then began doing parties for our own kids. Marketing ourselves on social media and through larger blog platforms along with word of mouth was key to growing our business. We now have a niche with smaller parties like children’s birthday parties, baby and bridal showers, adult parties, and corporate parties as well. We’ve also always showcased our creativity through photo shoots which are probably my favorite to do. I’m excited for all of the upcoming festivities we have scheduled with clients this Spring and Summer, the past few years have been crazy busy for us and it’s looking like 2023 will be great as well!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think a common misconception about event planning is that it’s all fun. I have to tell you, it’s actually A LOT of hard work. So when thinking about being an event planner these are the three qualities you’ll need – hard worker, great communication skills, and to have pride in your work. You’ll need to work hard during events which can be long hours of set up, break down, etc. Communication skills come in handy dealing with clients and vendors whether it’s via email, phone, or in person. The last is having pride in your work which is key to me. You always want to showcase your best work because it represents you and your brand, without that you don’t have anything!

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who has a vision or an idea of what they’d like but then trusts Beijos to take it from there. We would create a mood board for the event to based off of that they are happy with then organize all of their vendors to have a seamless event that represents the client and us in a beautiful way. Our ultimate goal is always to have our clients be happy with the outcome of their event so having their trust is key to making this happen.
