We were lucky to catch up with Stephanie Pitts recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Stephanie with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes directly from the way in which my family raised me and finding gratitude in everything that I am able to do. My parents owned a film production company in NYC and they always made my brother and I a part of their process. We saw and understood what it took to run a business, work hard for something in which you’re passionate and lead with unwavering confidence all while respecting people and their ideas. My parents always told me to do what I love and the success will come. I was on set my whole life and then when old enough to work, was hired to be their Production Assistant and Set Designer. I saw that a career can be fun and fulfilling but only if you put in the work. I didn’t ever know any other way. I have genuine appreciation and gratitude for life and all I am able to accomplish so working hard is fun for me, not taxing. I have pride for what I do and know that everything is a reflection of me.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
artNEST Studios is an Art Studio for kids ages 1-12 that focuses on the Art making process and creates an environment where kids can be the most authentic versions of themselves, naturally. All kids are born creative and we want to make sure that as they grow, they never lose their sense of wonder and curiosity. The superpower that is creativity lives within all of us and we have created a non-judgmental environment where kids can be themselves and have access to materials to turn their ideas into physical form, unleashing those powers. We teach the fundamentals of Art, mediums, styles and a diverse range of Artists all while giving kids the freedom to explore. Our studio is unique in that there is no expectation or pressure to create “good” Art, we focus on the process instead of the final product. Kids have the most epic ideas in their minds and we provide the vehicle to unleash those ideas and build their confidence in the process.
We are excited to have 2 locations. One in Delray Beach and the other in Boca Raton. We have plans on continuing growth so stay tuned!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three things that helped us make a successful business are:
#1 and most important, passion for what we do. It is VERY hard work to run a business no matter what type, how big or how small so in order to see it through you MUST have passion and believe deeply about your mission and your why.
#2 See the big picture. Planning out the details of your business are very important, but when you can step back and see the big picture of what you are doing and creating, it takes the stress out of the small stuff and keeps you moving forward.
#3. Get ready to work! Taking responsibility for each and every detail is essential. Hiring the right people is very important but ultimately you are responsible for their success. Make sure to have systems in place and comprehensive training for anyone that you hire. Being able to take yourself out of the business to take a vacation or to grow shouldn’t be stressful…but you have to work for it!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We are always looking for partners to collaborate with. It can be a school to provide enrichments in their after school program, a community looking for activities for their families, events that are looking for a unique and exciting activation for kids and adults and most recently, partners to open new locations in new cities! Ideally that would be someone ready to run their own business and be in charge of their own destiny. Anyone with kids that wants to spend more time with them and teach them how to be entrepreneurs or anyone that wants to be a part of something truly unique and special that changes the lives of the families with in their community.
