Meet Kendrick Scar

We recently connected with Kendrick Scar and have shared our conversation below.

Kendrick , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
To me, creativity is a state of mind. I must upkeep a certain threshold within myself in order for me to “tap in” to my imagination. Yeah, I can create something simple and easy to the mass, but it would never resonate with me… and if it doesn’t resonate within me. I have no attachment to that piece, whatever form of art that is (writing, singing, performing). Ways I notice my burnouts and kind of steer myself away from that dead end is through meditation and breathing. I’ve been reading a lot of self enlightenment books lately and learned how energy centers within the glands of our body play a key role in our mind, body and spirit. So if I’m ever uninspired, I tend to isolate to listen to myself… my body… and figure out where and how I can release.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
After many years of solely creating without the desire to market or profit off of my creativity. It’s been a hard time creating a “brand” for the artforms I enjoy creating. So I found a great medium between my music and my books, by creating the persona “KSCAR: The Ghostwriter” paying homage to my pen-name (Kendrick Scar) and my musical artist tag labeled KSCAR. (found on all streaming platforms). Playing the words of being a “ghostwriter”, I hint that I play in both realms of music and film through the art of writing. Whether that be scary stories (‘The Daze Trilogy’ | 2024) or ‘The D-Tension Tapes’. I’m constantly documenting my experiences of life through sonic and visual chronicles curated into this “universe” I create within these two masterpieces I’m working on. It’s been a very long time coming but, I am ready to show the world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
First and foremost, God. After a bad accident on Cinco De Mayo I was hospitalized for a week with a bad neck injury thus making me immovable temporarily. Through faith and my support system, I rehabilitated within 3 months time and had to press a hard reset on my life… beginning with taking my first steps again at 24. Through that process I have learned so much about discipline, determination, meditation, and intention. Shoutout to TED Talks and books (‘Becoming Supernatural’) for teaching me about my G.U.N. (God, Universe and Nature). Also, I want to thank my mother who’s been a rock throughout my journey of life and truly becoming a sponge to this everchanging world. I see inspiration in her growth as a woman, a mother, and a new “Mimi” (grandmother). The advice I would have for folks who are early in their journey would be to hone in on that specific “thing” you love doing. Never give it up, there will comes days… even months of not engaging in it. But what is meant for you, will be for you; and only you know what your thing is. Take the time to learn, study your “thing” and always surprise yourself. It’s okay to rest, resting is apart of the journey.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
First the first time ever, I can actually say my own. Now that I am at the end of the Daze Trilogy and kind of summarizing the stories of Silas, Keian and so much more… I found myself looking at my greatest inspiration in film and books (Matt Ruff, Jordan Peele, The Wachowskis, Rick Riordan). Even I, sometimes find myself captivated by these stories and cliffhangers from book one. It’s amazing I can still step outside my role and enjoy the craft for the craft, I think that’s important… loving the process.

“… it can care less about the people’s choice, they’re after the people’s voice.” – ‘Daze Forgotten’ Kendrick Scar
