We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful D.WadeTheHost . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with D.WadeTheHost below.
Hi D.WadeTheHost , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I developed confidence & self esteem by simply being myself at all times. I’m the type of person that can’t help but be myself & give off genuine energy. Understanding that you’re not for everyone but the ones that receive your energy well & appreciate it, reassures you that being yourself is more than enough. That then translates to being being on stage when I do my events. Hosting is all about confidence, being yourself and being well spoken. Getting paid & recognized for being yourself is top tier foreal, which is why I love my profession as an emcee and entertainer. Strangers give you the best opinion of yourself because they judge you off first impression and the vibe you give without any prior knowledge of where you come from, your past, your mistakes, etc. Being comfortable in your skin is highly important and in return it helps others around you to be comfortable being themselves as well and that’s exactly the vibe I like to give.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
D.WadeTheHost is an entertainment brand force of energy and creativity, and has been for 10 years! I rock the mic, move mountains and move people! The party and the vibes start and end with me! Being on stage & entertaining people and making them laugh & making sure they’re enjoying themselves is everything to me. I’m also versatile as I host everything from parties, corporate events to weddings and line dance classes. Dance is a huge part of what I do & my weapon to move the crowd & connect with people. I also host a podcast called Scrilla Guerillaz Magazine where we promote independent artists, brands & businesses and conduct exclusive interviews in the city of Atlanta. Lastly, I am an actor! Still growing and learning in my two years and the journey has been so fulfilling! I love my journey so much because I starte off in background and worked my way to speaking roles. My first lead role is in a film called Teach on Tubi which is a 3 part comedy/drama series. I also appear in a film called Vanity Vixens which is available on Tubi and Amazon Prime. Both those projects were released in 2023 and I currently have some other projects in the works! All of these hats fall under D.WadeTheHost!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say the 3 qualities that helped me most and were the most impactful to my journey are definitely consistency, resiliency and humbleness. I am very much in love with my craft having starting this journey 10 years ago has been a long road from Michigan to Georgia! Lots of days of exhaustion, days of uncertainty and self doubt but through it all I pride myself remaining relevant and consistent in the entertainment world. I’m always searching for my next opportunity no matter what’s going on in my personal life because God and my tribe won’t let me quit. Kountry Wayne once told me simply to “keep going” when I asked him for advice and I’ve lived by that. I have no management or representation right now so I pride myself on being self sufficient and a student of the game regardless of how many stages I touch. I have been doubted, underestimated and overlooked throughout my life and that fuels me to go harder for myself and for the people who genuinely love me and want to see me win. As much success as I’ve had, I know that I am no better than the next or never to big to receive criticism and coaching. Growth is everlasting.
Advice I would give to others on their journey would be to own your journey and remember why you started. I don’t have any special information to offer in regards to that or nothing you haven’t already heard from people who’ve conquered their dreams. Everybody’s story is different but you have to trust yourself and trust God. Faith has gotten me this far and has allowed me to overcome odds I thought at times were impossible. On top of that, understanding that nobody owes you anything is huge! Life is not fair and don’t place expectations on humans to make things happen for you, YOU have to make that happen for yourself. I’ve heard “no” so many times that it turns me on. It’s not a matter who how, but when. How you’re going to make it should not be your focus, but knowing that it will happen under God’s timing.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Transparency is big for me and is something that has helped me be more personable with people. A current struggle I am facing stems for financial hardships and balancing working a 9-5 while pursuing your dreams. Atlanta is expensive and the cost of living is a lot to handle, especially for someone doing it all on their own. I have people who think I’ve already made it or have it all together and that’s definitely far from the truth. I am very accomplished but still struggle at times because I am constantly striving for a life that’s free working a 9-5 job and a place where I can go fully independent in the entrepreneurial world that will allow me sustain a living based off my own talent. In Atlanta everyone has the preception of being rich and being a social media star and it’s easy to fill discouraged because you feel you aren’t doing enough, when in actuality you’re right where you’re supposed to be. Another thing is that I am constantly thinking about my family because I am doing this for me of course but I desperately want to bless the ones that made me who I am today. My success is much bigger than me.
Things I’m currently doing to overcome this is by praying and continuing to stay booked and busy and being ready when my name is called. I know it’s all going to happen for me one day. I stay researching opportunities and always give 110% when I’m booked because I truly love what I do, I am great at it and you never know who’s watching.
