We recently connected with Heaven Green and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Heaven, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I get my reslilience from being one who have always had to smile no matter what was going on. And after my daughter passing I still had surviving children and I had to show them that they was all important and I had to bury my daughter and then hurry up and put a roof over my surviving sons head. Sometimes you do not have time to sit and dwell have to keep pushing or make your situation worse.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hi my name is Heaven I am the owner of Ayanna Haven Foundation which is a nonprofit that help families who have lost a child or sibling in a disaster. We help with many things but helping families fight through mentally through adversity is one of the best feelings ever. Every March we have a laugh to keep from crying event in Pittsburgh PA and Florida to raise money to help the families as well as honor a family on that special day. To learn more or to be a support to other families you can visit our website at www.ayannahavenfoundation.com
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilience is one of the biggest skills. You have to not give up and not be discouraged when it does not seem like you are on the right path. Having the ability to learn is a quality that each leader need to have. If you know everything you are fine. But if you know there is always room for growth and strength listening and learning from a more seasoned person well elevate you.
Support with a nonprofit you have to want to help with a problem that many as a community will want to also help with but do it from the heart and not for show.
The best advice I will give is sometimes you may get discouraged and want to give up because it seems no one believe in you. But as long as you believe I’m you ad what you are doing don’t give up sometimes you have to reevaluate restructure and get back in the game.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
My biggest challenge has always been funding. When you are working with families who have lost everything including a child in a tragedy the funding when you are a little nonprofit that many has not learned about as of yet the funding to help these families are next to none
