Meet Gabrielle Jameson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gabrielle Jameson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Gabrielle, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
I have always tried to have a positive and hopeful outlook on life no matter the circumstance. Even through the worst moments in life, my goal is to be able to make something positive from it. Since 2020 I have been involved in a court case that has been dragged out into a monstrous ordeal with so much deceit and corruption. At first, it broke me down, but I had a great support system of family and friends who helped me work through it all and start my fight for justice I am still on to this day. After having so many people in the justice system that is supposed to protect the people in this country it was really disheartening to be let down and turned away again and again. I was able to make something from it though, with a lot of time and healing I was able to create a photographic series focusing on the feeling of taking ownership of your trauma and pain and allowing it to help you grow and heal; the series is titled Growth From Pain. That drives my optimism, the people around me pushing me to be the best I can be and helping me create the work that fuels me even when I feel like I can’t.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Well I guess I do a bit of everything! I work on product and fashion photography, family and school portrait, assisting and editing, as well as personal passion projects! I always have just loved to dive into what I’m given and see what I can make of it, that’s the whole point of this for me anyways. I want to get the best possible photos for people so when they see them they will have a smile on their face. My most recent project titled Growth From Pain was a months long creation that I’ve been considering adding on to. Besides that I’ve been working with other photographers and taking on new and exciting projects as I get them! I’m currently open for projects as I’m always looking for something new and exciting to work on!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the three best things that helped me get where I am now would be this. 1 that I always made sure to work with other photographers and artists when I could, surrounding yourself with creative people allows you to see so many new perspectives and ideas that help you grow and a individual and an artist.
2 I constantly was looking at things online and writing down things I liked or found cool in some way. in time I had these giant lists I could look at when I was not in my most productive mode and give myself ideas and things to work off of.
3 I made sure to keep my work and my passion separate, it was hard at first because sometimes I wanted to just turn everything I enjoyed into a project or assignment, but in doing that I learned I was getting rid of the things I used to get my mind off of work. So the best advice I give is make sure to do what you love in life, but don’t let your work that you love mix into your personal life you use to escape work when you need to.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
I think it is good to use your strengths when they are helpful and to be thankful that you have them, but I also feel that growth is important because improving is never bad for someone. The thing to remember is that if something isn’t your strength then you can’t let that stop you from working on other things in your life. In my work sometimes I would be so focused on one specific aspect or detail that I would completely forget what I was trying to accomplish in the first place. It made things difficult for a while and I would have to remind myself that I can’t be great at everything I try, but I could do my best with the skills I did have.
