We were lucky to catch up with Mayur Phadtare recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mayur, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Since I jumped into the world of business ownerships, I faced several professional challenges. And in the past couple of years, my family suffered several losses. Through all this turmoil, I have learned a couple of lessons.
First, situations are always better managed with a positive outlook. And second, while you may have many uphill battles to fight, there is always someone who has it worse than you do. Therefore, it’s always better to be optimistic and consider yourself fortunate.
I started Nashbox Studios as a freelance photographer in 2017. Today, we have grown to a team of 5+ members, and are focussed on the latest technologies and offerings in the visual content sector.
Our flagship offering is product renderings and 3D product animation. It is a technology that utilizes product CAD data to create images and videos, without using the extensive setup that traditional photography and video use. Using this process, we have enabled our clients to be ready for the future of e-commerce.
While shopping online, consumers expect more information about the products they are purchasing. They want to interact with the product, understand it’s features, check out different designs – often from the convenience of their homes. Interactive 3D animations provide these capabilities. Short of being able to touch the product, consumers can experience all its features.
Additionally, I am pleased to announce that we are now in Canada as well! I moved to Vancouver in early 2023, and we have already started serving businesses here.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
– Build a strong network: People do business with people they know, like and trust. It is absolutely essential to have a strong network of fellow businesspeople, mentors and even friends to be successful in anything one does. There are many ways to develop your network – networking events, social mixers. Our team engages in various activities. Personally, I leverage my hobby of mountain biking to meet people in our target market of outdoor sports.
– Become a sales machine: Most businesses fail due to lack of cash flow. It doesn’t matter how good your product is if you are unable to sell it.
– Hire Right, Hire Differently: When I started building my team, I skipped the interview process. I hired people for projects and if they performed well over and over, I retained them. My first hire was a business manager and she has more than replaced me in Nashville. I am currently looking to develop a similar role in Canada and hire another business manager who will replace me in Vancouver. Doing this enables me to move up the customer food chain, bypass the initial screening that most clients do and speak directly with the decision makers.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
We pride ourselves in being selective and working in certain niches. If we believe that we will not be able to contribute to an client’s success, we refuse the project. This may sound like we are shooting ourselves in the foot, but in the long run this has proved to be the right thing to do.
Our ideal clients have one or more of the attributes below:
– Outdoor/sports goods manufacturing companies
– Design & manufacturing companies in the industrial, energy and high-end consumer goods sectors
– Team Size: 50+, Revenue: $10M+ (although we do work with smaller companies with the right projects)
– Tech and manufacturing startups with a promising product
