Meet Sydney Kramer

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sydney Kramer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Sydney with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I would have to say I get my work ethic from my family! I come from a long line of hardworking and ambitious people who never give up and keep pushing to be the best or do the best they can. In the end all you can do is your best. Especially from the lessons I learned from my parents, sister and grandparents, I learned that there is no such thing as perfect only doing your best.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Well since moving to Los Angeles back in the summer of 2017, I have held had many jobs in the entertainment field since moving out here. The majority has been working on set as a production assistant, script supervisor, audience filler, background actor, casting assistant. The list just keeps on going. But of course I have had to face many challenges as well as rejection. Plus overcoming the pandemic and the writers/ actors strike has made an impact on me both positive and negative. But those two events have made me become more patient and much stronger. Because even though I still have a long way to go before reaching my dreams, I’ve look back and have realized I have found my own success. It might not have been the way I had hope, but its been in ways that I have been able to gain more work experience and make connections that have opened more doors for me.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Patience, hard work, and manifesting. I have come to learn that you have to be patient when it comes to trying to make your dreams come true or achieve what you want to achieve. When I came here, I thought I was gonna get a job at any studio and work on set all the time. I was wrong and learned you have to network and spread word about yourself or else no one will give you a chance. In this time period, I have had to work and connect with many people on different projects in order to get more work and to gain more experience. From film & television sets, music videos, commercials, it has been an eventful and wild journey meeting new people and gaining more experience of working in entertainment. Like everyone else I have had to be patient when it comes to receiving work and waiting for more opportunities. After reading Jenna Fischers autobiography, it has taught me that everyone in entertainment has had to go through the grueling journey and that everyone has to face disappointment and excitement all at once. For manifesting, I had to tell myself I am going to get more work and gain more experience and tell myself that right now whenever work is slow it won’t be forever. Believe it or not it has worked and especially during times I have felt set life was slow. I still manifest and I know I’ll continue to work hard and put myself out there anyways possible.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Recently I read Jenna Fischer’s autobiography and Lucille Balls autobiography. I didn’t realize how much of an impact it would end up making on from those two books. Reading about how Jenna Fischer worked and hustled for almost a decade before making it on The Office and seeing the jobs she had to take on and the rejection she had to face while achieving and making her dreams come true. Also seeing her acknowledge those around her on set trying to make ends meet and moving their way up the entertainment latter made me admire her even more and telling those that success didn;t happen over night and to keep pushing because you never know where tomorrow might lead. Also reading Lucille Balls journey in Hollywood made me look up to her more and seeing how driven and independent she was during the Golden era especially since it was rare and unusual during that time. It was fascinating to read the jobs she had to take on in New York and Los Angeles just to get by and seeing the path in Hollywood she ended up taking and making her a breakout star in her own way she never thought possible. If anything these two ladies and their stories have pushed me to keep going and seeing where each path in entertainment may lead me or what doors will open to me. In the end, I still have more doors to knock on and more paths to explore and in all I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
