We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Auroura Morgan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Auroura below.

Auroura, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
It was a long road of mindful and diligent effort to overcome constantly feeling like an imposter. Breaking free from the idea of “I am not this successful person everyone believes I am”, sounds much simpler than it is. Despite hearing unsolicited validation from everyone around me on how well I was doing, I still couldn’t believe it for myself. One day I just decided I was exhausted by these feelings coming up so often, because I deserve to be able to enjoy and celebrate my success. So I thought about it for quite a while, until I arrived at the conclusion that humans are naturally designed to be problem solvers. We look for every single flaw that could possibly be conceived (especially with ourselves) and probably even create a few extras just to keep ourselves busy. The saying “I am my own worst critic” came to mind. Then I realized it would be much more efficient to put my energy into focus on solving my problematic thinking. Setting out to prove to myself that I am actually this “successful person”, I directed my attention to the quality of my endeavors and my performance in them. I researched all kinds of different skills that really made me doubt myself and I learned all about them. Every time those feelings show up, instead of letting them deteriorate into burnout, I find the courage to go search for proof. Through this I have learned that certain tasks require specific methods, but for everything else there’s a diverse spectrum of ways they can be done. I also learned that I’m an autodidact, so I find it pretty easy to pick up new skills intuitively. I believe my imposter syndrome was self consciousness and doubt in my ability to learn and succeed on my own. From these discoveries and mindset changes, I have experienced immense growth to the point that my imposter syndrome has fallen quiet. Ultimately I have finally grown into celebrating my successes while embracing my tenacious individuality in accomplishing them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
While opening my own private studio Black Lantern Tattoo Co has been one of my biggest accomplishments in my career, owning a small business falls second nature to my work as a tattoo artist and creative. I constantly create unique custom tattoo designs for my clients as well as designs from my own body of artwork. Striving to inspire, I focus on further exploration of the possibilities for every design I bring to life. Every custom tattoo is a flowing collaboration, from client to artist and ink to skin. An appointment only private studio is advantageous in this process, it offers sanctuary to ask questions and a relaxing atmosphere to navigate such a permanent change in appearance. Empowering my clients to exercise their autonomy and individuality with my artistic abilities is so rewarding. I find so much purpose in supporting self expression and the joy that follows each tattoo.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
– Communication

Open honest communication skills are imperitive to the process of giving or receiving tattoos. Asking questions to navigate the boundaries of possibility and autonomy is crucial. This helps build mutual understanding and trust between clients and artists.

– Technical Skills

After you have established open honest communication, educating your clients on the technical side of your artistic abilities is vital. The more you learn, the more experience you gain. Express it verbally in a way your clients will be receptive to, then follow up by executing it with your skills.

– Fun

Having fun is so important in the creative process weather you’re the artist or the client! Getting a tattoo is such a memorable experience, because you wear it from that moment on. I have a lot of tattoos and I also remember all of the memories that go with them. If I’m making memories to last a lifetime, I genuinely hope they’re fun and positive ones.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
