Meet Irving Lambert

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Irving Lambert a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Irving , thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.
On a personal note, I believe in taking periodic breaks after completing projects, stepping away from the whirlwind of social media, and immersing myself in activities I genuinely enjoy. Whether it’s a visit to the arcades, moments of private reflection through prayer, or leisurely nature walks, these respites offer valuable downtime. If an idea strikes during these intervals, I make a note of it, but I reserve exploration for when I’m fully ready to dive back into work. Our world often encourages us to keep pushing forward relentlessly, rarely pausing to appreciate the present moment. I’m speaking to myself here – it’s crucial to strike a balance. Set aside time for cherished interactions with loved ones, engage in conversations that extend beyond the realm of work, prioritize physical fitness or explore hobbies beyond your professional life. While comfort is welcome, finding that equilibrium is the key.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a Los Angeles-based filmmaker, and my work spans across various exciting projects. I’ve ventured into the world of fan films, including popular IPs like Powerpuff Girls, Hunter x Hunter, and One Piece. Additionally, I’ve had the pleasure of creating commercials for brands like Doritos, Twisted Tea, Liquid Death, and even ventured into the gaming realm with Genshin Impact.

Currently, I have some thrilling projects in the works, including collaborations with Kel Mitchell and Konami. While I can’t reveal the details just yet, I’m confident that they will be groundbreaking.

Beyond filmmaking, I’ve also delved into the clothing industry with Anime Gear Guru. We’re currently in the process of rebranding and securing licensing, which is a development that we’re incredibly excited about!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I possess three key skills: strong social skills, a robust work ethic, and a keen awareness of cultural dynamics.

In larger gatherings, I tend to be more of a listener than a talker. I believe in the importance of building meaningful relationships, as you never know what opportunities may arise from them. Over the years, I’ve nurtured numerous connections, and now, they’re bearing fruit in unexpected ways.

My work ethic is something I take immense pride in. Whether it’s within or beyond the entertainment industry, I’m involved in various aspects behind the scenes. When assigned a task, rest assured, I not only complete it but also strive to exceed expectations.

Understanding the cultural landscape is vital to me. I’m not one to blindly follow trends, but I pay close attention to why certain trends gain popularity. I’ve noticed that some creators stand out in this regard, and I’ve even reached out to them to explore potential collaborations beyond their comfort zones in the world of filmmaking.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
My current challenge revolves around a major pivot in my career. I’m transitioning away from fan films, even though they’ve been instrumental in opening doors and connecting me with brands. Rebranding and pivoting can disrupt engagement and momentum, which can be a bit intimidating. However, I’m determined to elevate my work to a new level by creating original content.

Breaking it down, producing a film can be quite costly. While I have friends who are eager to participate, I recognize the importance of compensating them for their time and dedication. I’m currently exploring options, whether it’s seeking investors, self-funding, or incorporating product placement. The path forward isn’t crystal clear, but I’m diligently studying and learning what it takes.

Is it going to be perfect? Definitely not, but I’m fully committed to taking this next step in my journey, showcasing a fresh body of work that goes beyond my usual content.
