We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Paul “Baby Paul” Hendricks . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Paul “Baby Paul” below.
Paul “Baby Paul”, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my parents- both are Jamaica, West Indies immigrants who came into the country when I was born.
My father worked for the watch and jewelry brand, Tourneau in the Diamond district, and eventually opened his own jewelry and watch repair store .
My mother worked for a clothing cleaning store in Union Square, NYC then later became a nurses aide.
As I became older I took their drive and work ethic to earn an honest living and applied it to my own goals.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a Grammy Nominated music producer of over 20 years, having produced records by artists of various music genres on both major labels and independent music labels.
I currently own and operate and independent music label in partnership with a major label distributor, 300 Entertainment.
I am also a working Dj playing music at well known venues throughout the NYC metropolitan area..
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I learned how to maintain my career by building a lot of relationships in my field – music producers, recording engineers, music managers, event promoters, DJs, record executives, and so on.
I realized in my career tenure that your network is your “net worth” so the more resources you can acquire to accomplish your target goals, the better your results.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
I feel that my area of growth over the past year has been to balance my lifestyle between work and personal time.
I made sure to get proper rest, eat healthier, and tighten up my business structure and working schedule to have time to be with my family, nurture my closest relationships with friends and loved ones while also maintaining a solid foundation with my business associates to stay productive with my work.
Being self employed, balance is essential along with good communication with co-workers, business associates and partners.
