Hirushi, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
Great question! “Being the only one in the room that looks like you”.

I feel there are 2 choices I could make with that information. Either I feel like I don’t belong, OR I use it as the reason to positively stand out from the pack. And what decides that choice, is confidence; knowing that you bring something different to the table and showing it. This confidence has come in different ways. for instance, seeing the room as a place to learn new things. I’ve learned amazing things simply by listening and paying attention to all ideas and thoughts thrown around. I’ve felt that listening holds a lot of power in such a setting.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a Singer, Performing Artist, and aspiring Actress, who loves to travel the world and create new work and experiences. I was born in England, raised in Sri Lanka, and educated in the United States. I have learned and explored an array of subject matter including Psychology, Business, Music and Acting.

I debuted as a singer in Sri Lanka in 2018, completing 20 singles and music videos, 4 film and television soundtracks, amounting to multiple South-Asian languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Sinhalese and Kannada.

Prior to my debut as Singer and Performing Artist, I was a media personality for National Television (English) and Press for almost 8 years.

Due to many invitations, I studied Acting for the camera at University of California Los Angeles, to further take up cinematic projects in the United States. It’s a “Jack of all trades” kind of a journey, and I’m truly excited for it!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Public Relationship: To me, understanding and maintaining interpersonal relationships always played a key role in my journey. As an Artist, understanding human nature, its emotion is really important to stay in our paths, create what we create and connect with our audiences. It is also brings balance to the technical and transactional nature of the “show business”.

Spiritual awareness: Being in entertainment means, you are always exposed to auditory, visual and materialistic factors. it is a space run by numbers, comparisons, the glitz, the glamour and the anxieties of sustaining and being relevant. In such a path where things are volatile, having a spiritual understanding is very important. it gives us grip of the present moment, and helps us appreciate the process of actually creating something, instead of always worrying where it’s going to take us.

Investment knowledge: One important thing I learned was: when, how and where to invest my time, wealth and energy. It is important to put ourselves in places and situations that can increase value, and growth in our lives.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I would love to collaborate with talented designers, brands, photographers, cosmetic artists, musicians, digital creators and other artists to create new digital experiences, installations, and concepts. I believe I can contribute in many ways and I will be honoured to work with the amazing people in the community!
