We recently connected with Beats By Hod and have shared our conversation below.
Beats By Hod, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever head any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
When I used to run to into Beat Blocks, I would usually go listen to songs produced by producers who I looked up to. I would get into the zone and be so motivated, I would go right back to FL Studio, and get back to it again.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a Music Producer, I am from Clayton County, GA and I am 31 years young. Ive been making beats and producing music for over 10 years now. I started off rapping when I was in elementary school using a tape cassette to play the beat and a stereo to record into the computer. Back than, I didn’t know about computer programs to record music in, so that’s all I had to work with, but, in the end it worked out. As I got older, I learned about a program called FL Studio and over the years got better with using the program, so I started rapping on my own beats, going to school, learning how to efficiently use Pro Tools, which is like an music industry standard now a days. Til, this day im still getting better and better with my beats. But, Im finally getting the recognition that I deserve, especially through Instagram. Im very thankful for that and have much more in store for myself just like getting my beats in TV shows and other situations. In 2010, I took a pause with rapping to focus more on working with other artist to build my platform stronger. Just last year, I decided to get back on the mic releasing my first single since 2010, called Ready. The mic performance video that I uploaded to Instragram received over 5,000 views, which isn’t bad at all to me. People like what I deliver because they can feel it and apply it to their lives.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Being Consistent Working Hard
Staying Focused
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The 48 Laws of Power, I say that because that book teaches the way of society and how people are, can be, and they move out here. Like for example, Law One in the book is to Never Outshine The Master. You can’t never outshine the master, he or she is the one who showed you how to get where you are, might of made you a stronger person. You cannot turn your back on someone who helped you advanced in life and that what a lot of people do. So to me, this is a GEM, because you should always give thanks to those who help advanced your life, but never try to out do them in the end, always appreciate them for what they did for you.
