We were lucky to catch up with Heather Halliday recently and have shared our conversation below.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’ve always had the entrepreneurial spirit, I just wasn’t sure how I wanted to use it! My degree and background is in Interior Design (which I love!) however, once my husband and I started a family, my kids became my number one priority. During the time I stayed home with my littles, I discovered that I really loved event planning. I knew through planning my own wedding (before kids) I loved the process of event planning but didn’t make anything of it. Once I started planning my kids elaborate parties, family gatherings, and community events, I discovered that I loved thinking about all the details to make the art of gathering really special! With my love of serving others and love for design, the two blended together perfectly to start my own event planning company.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think three of the most important qualities I bring to my business Modern Whimsy Luxury Picnics & Event Co. are being detail oriented, a good communicator, and always thinking ahead. My advice for new entrepreneurs, would be to write down everything and to set up templates that help streamline the backend of your business so you aren’t re-creating every time. Such as your week before the event communication, the follow up e-mail after the event, the check list for supplies needed, etc. And of course, always keep your business mission at the front of everything you do.

How would you describe your ideal client?
One of my favorite things about being a business owner is meeting so many different types of people! I love getting to know my clients and helping them create an event that is uniquely theirs! My ideal client is someone who knows what they like and can communicate it, but more importantly that they trust I will bring my best creative self and will provide them with a well thought out, beautifully designed event!
