We recently connected with Emily Vann and have shared our conversation below.

Emily , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity to share my passion. At the age of 7 yrs old, I would take alcohol, matches, a needle, and a band aid and give my younger cousin “shots” under the kitchen table, which of course was my office (laughing). When I was 13, my pastor told me that he could see me “speaking to thousands of women”. When I was 15, I became a candy striper in our local hospital. Caring for people has always come easy to me because that’s what I was created to do. I have always been the friend that talked others through their tears. When I was in my senior year of high school, I took vocational training that certified me as a CNA. That’s when I knew I was destined to become a nurse. I just knew my purpose was to be a Registered Nurse and care for the sick. When I was 26, I was standing in my shower and had a vision that was so clear, it was startling. I was to counsel women between the ages of 18-80 and if I could change their mind, I could change their life. It was so vivid it brought me to tears. I ran out of the bathroom and told my new husband. By the end of the day, it became just another random idea. January 2021, 30 years into my career, successful in all areas that I have worked in, I realized I have not yet fulfilled my purpose. I was working in my calling, not in my purpose.  I received a message from a patient that sparked a whole new journey in me. A journey that has evolved into StraightTalk with Sissy LLC. I am now in the place in my life that I need to be in to finally fulfill my soul’s purpose. My mission is to change the world by normalizing Sexual Health conversations, eliminating the shame and devastation experienced by women that are associated with the Herpesviridae family/ STI’s, and by teaching a new generation how to remain free from the victimization of sexually transmitted infections. This is a purpose I never imagined for myself, but am now happy to embrace and move forward in.  At 52, I can tell you my soul’s purpose, my assignment, is to Galvanize Goddesses!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a Certified Professional Life Coach with over 30 years of experience as a Registered Nurse. I offer a unique approach that combines my expertise in healthcare and nursing with my passion for a joyful fulfilled life, internal empowerment, and life transformation. I provide holistic alternative perspectives in a unique “homegirl kinda way”. I provide tools and strategies that will help you rediscover your power and move forward in your soul’s purpose. StraightTalk with Sissy provides a safe space to discuss your diagnosis, dreams, and ambitions. My aim is to remove the hurt and fear around the stigma of sexually transmitted illnesses and educate my clients about the disease process, treatment options, and moving forward with their partner/future partners in the amazing life they deserve. I want to educate women and teens around the Herpesviridae family to eliminate the stigma that is associated with HSV 2. I created a brochure called Stop The Stigma! to assist me doing just that. I provide one-on-one/group sessions as well as seminars that are designed to help individuals gain the clarity, confidence, and the courage they need to take on the world. I am currently working on courses for individualized learning. I am committed to providing my clients with the skills and tools they need to live their best life.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

That’s a tough one. Strong listening and effective communication skills, a positive attitude, and the desire to help and care for people in need or qualities that are essential when coaching clients. It is essential to develop active listening skills with effective communication strategies.  These two qualities are what make my coaching skills top tier.My positive attitude and decades of experience allow me to see things from a different perspective, which in turn gives me the ability to help my clients see their situations and challenges in a more positive light.  I have taken care of people for over half my life and have developed the knowledge and skills to meet my client’s needs with care and respect, I am able to teach women to improve and advocate for their health and life as a whole.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

When I started StraightTalk with Sissy, I had no idea how to run a business. Learning what to do, step by step, to grow my business has been one of the biggest feats of my life. I have created my own website, developed products, created my first brochure called “Stop The Stigma!”, and  learned how to manage social media and am currently creating courses. It has been nothing but a rollercoaster, lol. I am in awe. My ultimate goal is to move to Panama within the next year, so I gotta keep pushing!!  Thank you so much for your time. This has been an honor.
