We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Derek Jameson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Derek below.
Derek, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
It’s always important to know that no one else in the world has your message. Your individual voice is needed to create change. That voice can come through the things we create on all levels. Even when I have fear around stepping into the unknown or worried about judgement, I always remember that I have something to express, to create, and to help this world evolve into higher states of being. I keep the channel open to the energy that wants to come through me. I listen to myself. I trust my inner Being. I take action.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a musician, producer, and dance artist based out of Los Angeles, C.A.. I got my start in entertainment when he was 15 years old in the San Francisco Bay Area. I performed in live stage shows at Paramount’s Great America theme park and various productions being filmed in northern California.
I combine my love for piano with upbeat house and techno music. In the past I’ve written songs for producer DJ’s Morgan Page, Bijou, Matroda, singer Kaleena Zanders, and worked with songwriter to the stars Jessica Hoover. My music spans cultures and has even taken my show on tour in asia. My music has also been featured in film and television and he continues to create music for the awakening soul.
My latest release is techno house banger ‘Take Me for Granted’ and I’ve worked with Baz Here on the official music video set to release mid Oct. Future projects include a Hunger Games inspired track with creative director and music producer Trent Park, and more music with Jessica Hoover. My next album will be released this Dec. This record will focus on healing through the shadow and allows us to access the parts of ourselves we hide from. It is about transformation.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Trust in oneself. If you don’t have trust in yourself you can be swayed by the outside world and give power away to anyone. 2. Develop relationships, not connections. Relationships are true and withstand the tests of humanity. It is our relationships that keep us connected and our tribe that makes us feel grounded.
3. Keep learning anything. Your brain wants to keep evolving, so keep taking on new information that will inspire neural plasticity and make you more powerful than you can imagine.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
‘The Four Agreements’ was given to me by a friend named Ryan VanDyke and it changed my life. You can reread that book over and over again and new awareness will come forward. It will always remind you of who you are at the core of your being and bring you back to center.
