Meet RE:DAWN

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to RE:DAWN . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi RE:DAWN , thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
As a group of aspiring artists, our optimism comes from a common ground of wanting to connect with people through our music. Being able to have an impact on those who are listening to our music is a very important aspect of our work. We hope to make music that our listeners can be inspired by and relate to, just as we were impacted by our favourite artists. And so, we gain positivity from knowing that our music could be just as impactful. We find positivity in knowing that our craft has the ability to relate to others and help inspire others. From covers we have posted to original music and snippets shared, we have found both positive feedback and also constructive feedback that affirms to us that people enjoy what we put out. Myself (Ren) personally, I find a lot of optimism from my inner hopefulness. There’s a certain joy and certainty that pushes me forward everyday when discussing music with the members or Lily. I performed for the first time ever this September and the feedback was great. Some things went wrong but that helps me to better prepare but standing on that stage, feeling the music course through me, my anxiety stripping away and hearing the applause after was an experience that I want to keep feeling. That joy of seeing the smiles on people’s faces as they sing along with us or hugging a fan, those are the kinds of things that keeps our head and helps us to strive for that goal. Ren also gave her first autograph this past Saturday, 30th September.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Re:Dawn, extended as Rewrite The Dawn, is primarily a pop and rock music girl group inspired by aspects of the aesthetics and foundations of Kpop. It is based in the United States with members from across the globe. The group started in November of 2022, and despite gaining and losing some members, they have persevered throughout their journey and are determined to make their mark in the industry. The main focus for the group at this moment is to write for and complete our first album while recording covers, vlogs, and other additional content to showcase our skills as a group. Re:Dawn hopes to solidify a seven-member line-up, including our original members, Ren, Kiri, and Sylva.

Our group differs from many other Western music girl groups largely due to many of the conventions drawn from the Korean pop industry, such as marketing, storyline, and content creation, as well as fan interactions. Our specialty is that every member has a hand in making our music. Whether it is songwriting, creative direction, finding a track that fits lyrics, or cover art. The name of our group was suggested by Sylva, who is one of the original members of Re:Dawn. This group is completely created online, from our audition process to joining our company, – YNA Entertainment, to holding meetings and making music. I think that is something that makes us stand out a bit more: the fact that our group started completely online but has managed to make it a career choice. Everything that happens we do and manage as a team: our social media content, our covers, everything is made from our minds and hearts. The recordings are done from our bedrooms, each cover art is made and approved by the group, lyrics are written and tweaked to meet the vibe we’re going for and our wonderful manager and CEO, Lily, handle our production and distribution. As for new projects, we are currently in the works of writing and releasing our single, ‘For You’. It’ll be recorded by the main members, Ren, Sylva, and Kiri. Kiri and Ren were responsible for writing the song, and Kiri was responsible for the backing track and cover art. We cannot wait to share with the world what we have going on and get everyone’s vibe on it!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Consistency, communication, and self-discipline, I think, have definitely made a big impact on our journey. All three I believe, tie in with each other a lot. We had to discipline ourselves to be on top of our postings and to communicate when and if needed, especially when it came to asking for help. To be frank, we are all still learning how to improve on these skills and qualities. Sleeping early, taking care of your voice, informing each other if a recording won’t be able to get done within a certain time frame, etc. As a group hoping to make it in the industry one day, and hopefully soon, I think those three things are very important. Our advice for those early on in their journey is to declare whether their journey is of importance to them. Are they willing to put their pride aside and come to compromises, step out of their box and voice their opinions, and get up early just to practice? Those things need to be made sure of first. Then, they can incorporate the skills and qualities found impactful to their journey into daily life. For example, I (Ren) make it a routine to drink warm tea and honey every morning or rest my voice when I’m not practicing or recording. Building your skills through daily life and mindful habits helps you improve and makes it easier to implement them in your craft.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
It is helpful to be well-rounded because you’ve got a skill, even at a moderate level, in other areas. However, I think it is just as important to hone your strengths before or while improving your skills in certain “weak spots.” The reason is that your strengths are your strengths for a reason, and while there’s nothing wrong with making them stronger, it can’t replace other skills. Thus, it makes you as a person look versatile and adaptable to be an all-rounder. I (Ren) was always focused on my vocals and strived to better it. From self-teaching to vocal technique classes, I did everything to hone my skills. However, when I decided to audition for companies, I faced the hard news that what they looked for were mostly all-rounders or people with a basic understanding of other areas, rap and dance. Because of this, I had to learn those skills, and although they’re not my strong suit, I’m slowly getting better. It helps to be well-rounded or at least have that basic understanding of those other areas if you wanna be in a group that has a lot to offer performance-wise, and it is always a great thing to learn a new skill.
