Meet Sherry Scott

We recently connected with Sherry Scott and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Sherry with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I got my work ethic from growing up in my environment as a child and wanting to want more for myself and my family. I grew up in an environment that was poor but we made it work. My immediate family all stayed in the same neighborhood and we were a very close family. I would watch things on tv and say when I grow up I’m going to make sure my family live in a big house and make sure we live comfortably.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a licensed master social worker with a speciality in mental health. I have been in the mental health field for over 10 years and I love working with adults that are diagnosed with mental health disorders. I was previously a director over an outpatient mental health agency for 5 years and working there was very rewarding and is one of the reasons why I am here today.

. I am an owner of a therapeutic adult day service for adults that are diagnosed with mental health disorders and for our veterans. We offer daily therapeutic groups, yoga, memory enrichment activities, outings, and arts and crafts. I am very excited when our members come to the program and are not interested in coming; then once they are there, they enjoy themselves, develop friendships and their spirits are lifted.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that were impactful on my journey is empathy, non judgmental stance and optimism. These were the most impactful on my journey because having these things kept me grounded and helped me to not give up when it wasn’t looking good for my business.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Currently I am facing, asking for help or hiring help. I am so use to doing everything myself that I sometimes overwhelm myself. So my biggest challenge today is hiring help. I had to realize that my business will not be able to grow if I don’t hire a team. Not one business will grow without a team and I had to learn that.
