Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carolyn Scott. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Carolyn, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
To some degree, I’ve always been confident. As a child, I was never afraid to fail or put myself out there, in fact I was always a ham! I’d have to say that perhaps I can credit my parents for always being supportive of me but I do feel like there was always a fire in me to achieve the goals I set out for myself. I learned fairly quickly that the worst thing anyone can say is “no” and that never scared me. Whenever I had any sort of rejection or failure, I allowed myself to feel what I needed to feel, let it pass through me, pick myself back up and try again. I knew that the only person that had ultimate control of what I achieved in life was me so I focus in going inward for strength rather than outward for acceptance.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the creator, producer, host and writer of my brand, The Healthy Voyager. Having launched it in 2006, I combined my previous skills and careers (filmmaker, nutritionist, chef, publicist and event planner) to create my own business to become a valuable resource for people to live happier, healthier lives in a manageable and realistic fashion. Under the umbrella of The Healthy Voyager, I host an award winning travel show that airs on a variety of online channels and most recently on the Go Traveler Network. I also host a vegan cooking show, have published several best-selling plant-based cookbooks, speak all over the world on the topics of healthy living, nutrition, healthy and sustainable travel, entrepreneurship and more. Additionally, I consult business as well as one on one clients on nutrition, recipe and menu development of special diet options, PR & branding and more.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1) Having had years of experience in the public relations world, I was able to build my own brand using the skills I used daily in that field.
2) Growing up in front of the camera and on stage gave me the confidence that helped me in the public speaking world as well as on camera for my own content.
3) Goig through my own health journey, I am able to put myself in the shoes of others who are on various levels on their path to wellness
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
I think for many women of a certain age, transition of life, career and even our physical bodies are becoming a thorn in our sides. I know it is for me. Playing in the social media sandbox it’s hard not to notice how age is either relevant or irrelevant when it comes to content, clients and campaigns. Not to mention that the constant change in that field is exhausting and unsustainable. So for myself, figuring out the next move, strategy or pivot is rising to the top of my to-do list over the day to day checklist.
