Meet Miles Richards

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Miles Richards a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Miles, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I wondered for a while what I’m “supposed” to be doing. I prayed for about the same amount of time for YHWH to show me what I should be doing. All throughout that time I was helping others to get active, remain active, and live active. Then one day it just clicked that this is what I need to be doing. YHWH gave me the desire to help people be healthy so that’s what I’m doing

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Aw man where do I even begin. To start I’m an Exercise Physiologist which is really just a fancy term for personal trainer except I’m certified to work with clinical patience (think people who are recovering from serious medical injuries and they’ve been cleared to begin rehab). The most exciting thing I’ve found about this line of business is getting to see people reach their goals. Sounds cliché but here me out. I’ve helped a now professional athlete get back to playing basketball after suffering from a hip injury of which doctors said he would’nt be able to play anymore. That’s like my best achievement ever. I get to help people move better.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Know what you’re talking about and if you don’t, be smart enough to go learn it. There’s no need to fake anything. Be passionate about what you’re doing. Have fun while you’re doing. I like making money but i think I like helping people more

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Overwhelmed use to be my middle name. The best strategy i’ve found for myself is to first take breaks. Sometimes I forget that all work and no play makes for a bad combination. Whatever i’m dealing with will be there whenever I get to it. If it’s time for me then I need to take it and enjoy it to the fullest
