Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tonya Leonard. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Tonya, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my “WHY”.
WHY do I get out of bed everyday?? WHY do I go out to work? WHY do I prioritize my career? (Outside of providing for the family, of course.)
I want to make a lasting, positive impact on the lives that I touch everyday. However minute it may be.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My field of endeavor is Financial Planning. I am currently studying for the Securities Industry Essentials exam, which is primarily focused on securities products, markets, and regulatory agencies.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Experience has taught me that the number one secret to being successful at anything is to treat everyone like they are a VIP. People respond well to genuine respect and kindness. Secondly, do NOT be motivated by greed. Monetary compensation can only take you so far, so what else is in this for you?? Last but certainly not least, be patient. Each moment is a learning opportunity, so take it all in!
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Life is chaotic. There are only so many hours in the day, so we tend to “multitask” in an effort to create some semblance of balance. But this strategy often adds to our stress by consuming what little downtime we have. The answer is simple. MEDITATE.
I know what you’re thinking! I’m too busy as it is, how am I supposed to find time for this?? But practicing mindfulness throughout the day will give you that relaxed focus you’re seeking. I highly recommend walking meditation.
